In modern soccer it is very rare for players on quality teams to play both youth and senior as most coaches seem to want to use the Ux squads to find and develop talent. On the men's side Pulisic never played for a youth team after his first senior cap. But Hayes is a VERY different coach and she may agree with me that you want some senior players on youth teams whenever possible for leadership It has now gone to 6-0 and it does not seem that close.
Yeah, I would be surprised it they are not called up and play. As Foudy said (on the broadcast), it will be great experience at a tournament a year out from the WC.
I see the overnight lows are in the 40s and it's LA, but it's still wild to see people bundled up in winter clothing when it's currently about 60°F.
One thing to remember is that teams do NOT have to release players for youth tournaments. If I were coaching a club side and any National team wanted one of my players to play some virtually meaningless youth tournament I would not release them unless they were not a key player and injury or fatigue was not important.
I thought that referees were not supposed to shorten matches even friendlies on lopsided scores but even with all the subs and goals this ref gave no extra time in the second half.
Final whistle thoughts: Big change in attitude in 2nd half. Lots more emphasis going forward. Related, there was also a lot more inventiveness as well. Sentnor became much more dangerous as a striker than a withdrawn forward. Nice to see. I liked that Sears came to play. She was always looking forward and looking to be dangerous. Wesley impressed me at the back with her composure and decision making. I liked Bethune's bite when coming on. She deserved more than just an assist (she did get only that single assist, yes?) Hutton was so calm and composed all match, and really controlled the midfield. Rodman's back! I hope to see more. And I hope Turner gets a goal or 3 v. Chile.
So, Hayes said 17-18 for SheBelieves that are not here.... 1) GK Tullis-Joyce 2) CB Girma 3) CB Sonnett 4) RB Fox 5) LB Reale 6) FB/WB/WM/WF: Patrerson 7) CM Coffey 8) CM/CAM: Heaps 9) CM Yohannes 10) CAM Lavelle 11) CAM/F Shaw 12) WF A. Thompson 13) CF Wilson 14) CF Macario 15) WF Cooper 2-3 more? Who am I missing? Someone returning from injury or leave like Davidson? A vet like Dunn coming back in? Schrader?
Sentnor - I've been pessimistic solely b/c her former lack of speed allowed her to be caught from behind all the time. But, at the u-23 match, she looked zippy. And, today she looked zippy. Did she get faster? Did she recognize the problem and runs faster? Is it just that this has come vs. U-23's and Paraguay? We will find out. But, with her finishing and shot creation, if she's solved that problem, it's hard to keep her off a roster.
How far down in the pool do we have to go before it gets competitive? Wow. I had Hutton as POM. And I'm not sure it's too late for La Bonta to make a World Cup. That was a pretty impressive outing by her.
Based on what Hayes said, this is relative. Are we talking SheBelieves? WC Qualification? WC27? Olys? WC31? From what Hayes said, she wants to see what the players are able to do in the next match, and have a pool ready for 2031, and all times in between. I agree.
