I never said it was new, I said it grew in the last decade, especially with the likes of Ted Cruz being put into Senate. I'm aware there's been folks that worship the Constitution and the Founding Fathers, however, the fact that it's grown and they're being given important roles (Senate, judgeships) solely to roll back things is another (Voting Rights Act).
Something that came up in the Strzok book is that when Russia attacked the US election, the FBI had no team that had responsibility for that stuff. I feel its the same problem here. Which FBI team "defends democracy" I know DHS has the most capability in terms of the terror threat of white nationalism but their job is to prevent terror attacks not save democracy
CBS just had a piece on the fundraising stuff. IMO the answer is simply no standards have been set, so people keep pushing it. I get the difficulty about proving what is untrue and what isn't but for years now conservative fundraising has obvious deceptive and fraudulent practices. e.g the stuff about "donald has selected you for a special club and is disappointed you haven't signed up" - that stuff would never fly in any consumer context - its obviously lies. Everyday advertisers are required by federal law to back up their claims with facts — but those same rules don’t apply to political candidates. One expert tells @TonyDokoupil that “there really are no easy solutions to resolving this issue." pic.twitter.com/9TNWvEklKA— CBS Mornings (@CBSMornings) June 22, 2022
Well this one-time defender of the Constitution would vote for the asshole who tried to circumvent it...again I mean, this is kind of the whole story, isn’t it. https://t.co/uaqPG18flC— Chris Hayes (@chrislhayes) June 22, 2022
There was a movie a few years back where gangs similar to Proud Boys etc. We’re given authority to act as ‘defacto’ lawmen without the constraints of police, run by a relative of the Prez. I think they called themselves “Leathernen” Can’t recall the Title tho. Looks like life is imitating a movie.
I built a house a while back near the end of the “Mormon Trail.” We used to ride trail bikes along to where It’s said that Young overlooking the Salt Lake Valley said “This is the place!” Mind you he was really ill with travel sickness at the time. Found some mule shoes and part of a wagon wheel on our rides.
While Bowers is (most likely) Mormon, I just read an interesting take on why so many white evangelicals continue to support Trump and now Herschel Walker - it's partly a reinforcement of masculinity and the gender dichotomy, as opposed to the gender-blurring that the left does. Mormons would be supportive of that as well. (Even though the article is in Chris Cillizza's column, he's only asking questions directed to an academic and not actually providing his usual "analysis"). Of interest to me, Putin has regularly argued the same thing for his condemnation of the West; which probably shouldn't be ignored given the growing evangelical love for Hungary and Russia. These more fundamentalist-style Christians view God as having created two distinct genders, so the rise of LGBT+ rights in particular has galvanized those types of Christians to adore strong-man leaders who provide "manly-man" examples of sexual assault, "spreading their seed around", etc. They're forgiven because they're just doing what men natural do, particularly when women don't do their natural role in helping "tame" men (James Dobson used to make that argument in condemnation of gay relationships).
What's with Wisconsin and candidates stopping advertising/campaiging there? Isn't it what Clinton basically did in 2016?
He needs to do this a lot more often. Asking questions, that is. "Providing his usual analysis" . . . that he needs to be doing a lot less often. Maybe even "never."
Looking at all those GOP/MAGA types squealing on Trump's scheme you do have to wonder if once more, they are hoping that the dems take Trump out for them - because it sure looks like the GOP will pay no price for the coup - in fact they have prepared to do it properly.
Let's make no mistake....Those guys are no heroes. Anybody who is a card carrying member of today GOP is a scumbag, a fundamentally dishonest, delusional and anti democratic person.
Yeah..... No. It's complicated. I'd remove dishonest and probably feel a bit more confident in your statement.
Right now the democracy they claim to practice/believe in is incompatible with the flavor of conservatism they support so dishonest is appropriate.
