So Pence has to go before the Grand Jury - this indicates the investigation is quite far advanced IMO Ignore the part about him trying to fight it - he'll go to jail if he tries to duck it. Pence receives subpoena from prosecutors examining Trump’s role in Jan. 6. Report says it is unclear whether he will comply. Law gives him no option imho. https://t.co/KFlfdAo4uM— Jill Wine-Banks (now on Threads as jillwinebanks) (@JillWineBanks) February 10, 2023
You can't claim that with a Grand Jury IIRC Exec privilege was for the exec branch against the legislative branch - you can't claim it against the exec branch
Oh yes you can! If there is one thing I've learned from the Trump years, is that you can file a lawsuit to delay anything!
Well let's just say, the opportunities to resist the grand jury are much less than congress - congress lacks any real enforcement powers whereas DOJ can mess you up
This over-deferential DOJ? C'mon! If we've learned anything from 1/6 is that the lowly Trumpanzee gets time in the slammer and the leaders run for president, fundraise and write books.
That's the real punishment, of course. At this stage of the nation, I would rather go to prison than run for president or fundraise.
i know its cool and hip to rag on DOJ but has there been any example of Trumpy goons standing up the grand jury? The only one I can think of was Graham attempting to dodge the grand jury in Georgia which didn't work, but at as a sitting Senator he had a semblance of a legal argument
Doesn't matter. The whole point of it is to run out the clock. Trump and Co hope that a Republican wins in 2024, so if they can drag out any investigations until the Republican gets in office, the new AG will kill any ongoing investigations.
Aaaand there it is: BREAKING: trump legal team is expected to challenge the Pence subpoena. Source @CBSNews Opinion: trump will ultimately lose, but this will delay the investigation.— Mueller, She Wrote (@MuellerSheWrote) February 11, 2023
You guys can slit your wrists all you want but I am following Joyce and Co on this. pence will comply. Maybe trump can delay it a little bit this is not like Congress. In fact, compliance with a grand jury subpoena is most definitely NOT optional https://t.co/VaSXG3V9w0— Joyce Alene (@JoyceWhiteVance) February 10, 2023
Again, the point isn’t to actually stop Pence from testifying. The point is to delay until a Republican becomes President. Every day delay moves them one step closer to that.
I agree with that. Indeed most likely what we are looking at is Pencey boy has not come in voluntarily and already delayed. He may want the covering subpoena. So Jack Smith is playing hardball.
The interview I saw this morning theorized that Pence's team asked for the subpoena, so he could comply but then claim he was compelled to do so. Apparently, there had been negotiations about him volunteering, but this seems like a much better option for Pence. The coward doesn't have the balls to show up on his own, even if he wants to testify.
The fact that so many government officials have been fighting investigations and fighting subpoenas over the past several years (and longer) just shows they don't believe in the rule of law. Nothing more obvious than Trump, of course. "Innocent people don't plead the Fifth" to pleading the Fifth of 500 times in a single interview. Sadly, we didn't really expect more from him, or any of them. I mention attorney discipline occasionally here. If a lawyer fails to participate in the investigation of them (or worse, obstructs), in most jurisdictions, that is generally considered an aggravating factor when the discipline is meted out against the attorney. As an officer of the court, there is an affirmative duty to participate to uphold the obligations. We should require AT LEAST that from our elected officials.
Don't forget - this is your grampa, uncle, barber, town councilman, retired cop/military etc. and there are millions more out there Big fat helping of the truth… https://t.co/OHBaOyMAws— Tony Michaels 🎙 (@thetonymichaels) February 12, 2023
