They are fortunate that by far the majority of the press is extremely right wing. So the press won’t be critical even Carlos Velez who hates James defended him because he hates Petro more.
He's also a coward, he hid in the picture and snubbed the daughter but shook Petro's hand. I'm just so over this team and prepared for a disaster tournament, everything leading up to it has been regression since the COPA America and now even internal fighting amongst the supporters.
50% of the country is left-wing. No one can convince me that out of 26 players, the majority coming from poor backgrounds, not a single one of them likes Petro? They should just come out of the closet. I think there is division within the team too. But maybe they are bullied or think it will screw up their career somehow. But it shouldn't be such a loaded question. This time between first and second vuelta of elections is the worst time to play WC. Maybe if the choices weren't so extremely different they could be more open about it.
It's a terrible time and they shouldn't be forced to have to chose to be pawns for either side, but the World Cup send off is more similar to an official duty for the president and the team, you're meant to represent the country both President and players at the World Cup, if there's an urgent message or something ok but be brave and make a statement if there's something urgent you really believe in. Maybe I could respect that, but they just look pissed off and sulking and James hiding and these antics do nothing for anyone and make it worse for the fans and the team. If you don't like Petro fine, but they look like spoiled brats, and they should consider this part of the responsibility for going tot he World Cup and greet the elected president to show you represent all of the country political differences or not. And again the captain, order players and manager should be smart enough to see this coming, talk about it and don't fall into what happened, no foresight or real leadership even if Lorenzo is well meaning he seems out of his depth and obviously alot of that may be deferring to James who has a ton of evidence that he has no brain in his head outside of the pitch.
So many players come from backgrounds where they have been directly impacted by violence.. family members killed, displaced by violence and poverty. but then you see them meet with some really questionable characters sometimes i wonder whats going on with people in our country.
I think many of them are scared people. Maybe they wrongfully thought that seeing Petro would be the same as endorsing him. But that's just retarded. So maybe they thought that not smiling or behaving like a-holes would save them..That just made matters worse. Much worse.
Comunicado de la @FCF_Oficial sobre los hechos sucedidos en la entrega del pabellón nacional. El presidente @petrogustavo estuvo y despidió la @FCFSeleccionCol al Mundial 🇨🇴 pic.twitter.com/FZBWC9O8ph— Cesar Augusto Londoño (@cesaralo) June 5, 2026 Now a half-assed statement has been made from the federacion. But not to ask for forgiveness but for protecting the players from the abuse that they correctly receive from acting like a-holes. This whole thing is on them and no one else and now they play victims. Very far down comes the phrase of plurality and diversity, but it's not very credible when they frame the whole thing in such a manipulative way.
He was part of an armed group in a time where that was not uncommon in Latin America, specially in Colombia. Signed a peace agreement and entered civilian life and won multiple election democratically. if this is not progress in a violent society i dont know what is.
This is so lame but I hope Petro goes high road and asks the country to support the team. It literally is the ONLY thing that has had universal support in Colombia and needs to stay that way. Irrespective of if there was a big lapse in judgement here with regard to how James treated Petro's daughter.
La Humildad de Antonella, de verdad la Selección no merece una fan como ella, llena de amor y deseos bonitos para su idolo!!! pic.twitter.com/MTlSjezzIz— Dianafer969 (@Dianafer969) June 5, 2026 She’s a good sport
Yeah shy boy James with his tough glasses is probably too much of a chicken to say anything. Takes a teen to break the silence.
This used to mean something man... I actually wanted an unique tattoo inspired by this sentence and condor wings with the Colombian colors. But man there's always something going on...
