Honestly the only reason he's so much of a call up is because the rest of our squad and midfield has been so poor on the ball. I think if JFQ was playing regularly in a really good league it wouldn't hurt as much, but the problem is he's not and wasn't at his best because of that. James hasn't been winning games or anything for us by himself that often, but the problem is when he's not there nobody else is linking the play from midfield and no one else is doing that role. It's all relative and unfortunately we don't have other midfielders playing at a higher level in the attacking areas aside from Cuadrado, and when Cuadrado is the main creative force we aren't super good because its all crosses and him slowing down the play to dribble and that's not ideal.

Glad you brought Cuadrado up. He has been somewhat of the glue that has held that MF together and/or created chances. However, these last 2 call-up cycles he's been kinda 'blah'. More heart than soccer, and without that glue than the other deficiencies stick out even further.

I just can't believe that with such a prolific group of respected strikers/scorers: Falcao, Duvan, Muriel, Borre, Morelos, Borja, Cordoba, etc, aside from Argentina and Brazil, (don't think you'll find better options in Conmebol), we can't put the goal in the net or even come up with more than 1-2 dangerous chances.

Yeah I won't fault Cuadrado, he's the player he's always been and he wants to do his best for Colombia. To be fair when he's been the main guy there isn't really other creators that are stepping up so it makes sense he fills the void, but its clear that its just not a dynamic that will make us super good at creating a lot of good chances. He works hard, defends when needed and while he can be frustrating for us at times the guy has answered the call to the best of his ability and is the same at club (he's better at Juve for me, but that's a system and manager thing probably).

A shame since he assisted the goal and was playing the full match. Now he misses a game.

It seemed like he was just tying his shoe laces when the ref gave him the yellow and he was trying to ask what it was for and got a second for asking?

Update: That's shocking. He got to the ball first and was the one fouled. Seems the ref misunderstood the play and gave him the yellow and James lost it trying to ask what it was for...

Meh James completed his second 90 minutes in a week and then some dumb shit happened at the end of the game where he was on the end of a horror tackle in a shitty ass league where guys are gonna probably do that to him. Don't really know all the details and he overreacted but its not a big deal imo, lots of players have been in that situation and the first yellow looked insane.

All of this is probably better for the NT and Rueda, James is at his lowest and needs us a lot, but we also need him if we want to hit a high level which we clearly haven't under Rueda yet. This gives Rueda lots of leverage, James has done dumb things, he's coming to the team as a player in a weak league who's just getting back into shape and Rueda freezing him out was vindicated in many ways. That puts James in a position not to ******** around and Rueda should have a lot of credibility on how he uses him. I mean we called up ********en Cardona who does stupid shit all the time and also pulled racist gestures while playing for us and still got called back into the squad.

Oh man, but if we are going to play sliding doors... if Rueda had let James play the Copa, he probably does well and earns himself a more dignified exit from Everton and does his purgatory in a better league...

Anyway, he should know better than lose his head like that. As JMezzy said, he doesn't usually and apparently hadn't been red carded for almost a decade so he must have been particularly pissed off.

I'm with Villus here, whether his plan was to domesticate James like his pet or not, Rueda's got total leverage on him here and I think is safe to call him. We havent had a dead ball taken remotely as well as that on the NT in ages...

Also with all the drama surrounding the two, and although I think Rueda had legit reasons I'm sure to freeze out James all of this happening is with James never playing under Rueda in the squad, so he was never there to oversee the dressing room with James in it, he hasn't really worked with him to fully know how it would go and get to know him well. James has too long of a track record, and his level is too high comparatively to our depth in his position to not give him somewhat of a chance to see how it goes. As a manager its on you to make it work, and if he comes in and its bad then oh well Rueda did his best to get the team to its ceiling, but we are not playing well enough to simply not give it a go, even if James isn't a nailed on starter anymore.

The injury is fault of the opponent player.

The yellow card was a bad call and mistake of the referee

the red card was fault of james after his act......wasnt heroic or justified, despite he smile with scars.

Could be true but its also 3rd person report. IDK, James isn't in top shape by any means after only playing a few games, but if he can give us 30 and 60 of quality to help that would be great but he's not going to be able to jog around like he's above the team without any effort that's for sure.

I don't know about his rhythm and maybe not as sharp as his best but he certainly was running the field and playing in defense too. Got an assist too off a dead ball if I recall.

I thought he was immediately better than anything we had in mf tonight in possession. I'd play him at home.

I know it was only for about 15 minutes but I agree he looked awfully slow, almost "thick" in build, and static. A waste of a sub really. Really hope he can make a difference with any minutes vs Paraguay.
