Charlton Athletic midfield/forward Jason Euell has decided to choose Jamaica as his National Team. He becomes the third current player at Charlton Athletic to play for Jamaica; Kevin Lisbie and and Jamal Campbell-Ryce.

    http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/spor..._61603_OBS_CHARLTON_STAR_FOR_REGGAE_TRAIN.asp

Jamaica just became stronger in the front. Euell plays best as a withdrawn forward.

You can see some of his goals at soccerclips.net

Now this is in the US forum because Jamaica has now become stronger in the front. Their defense is decent, but this is a definate upgrade, I would doubt that Onandi Lowe gets called up anymore.

That Aug match in Kingston just became a little more difficult.

    Look at their midfield.

Would they have an impact on ours? Would they dictate tempo with theirs? Will their d-mids destroy our attacks?

I'm thinking not as effectively as ours, but then I'm biased obviously.

I agree, but on a quick counter their forward pool is imporved with the addition of Euell.

I still think that the US will beat them, but it just became a little more difficult.

There's no question that Jamaica will be talented in the attack. Between all the MLS and England based forwards, they'll have plenty of depth there and, as we've seen in MLS, on his day Andy Williams can be a very effective playmaker. Jamaica will likely be very dangerous.

But, we've also seen Andy Williams be shutdown for long stretches in MLS and I'm sure Bruce will just pull Chris Armas aside and say something like "neither of us want this guy talking $hit in training next week, do we?" and have him stay in Andy's shirt.

While I'm very impressed with Jamaica's attack, not so much with their midfield and defense and I think that's where the US will have a tactical advantage.

So do they play an exclusivly counter-attacking style with this group of players? Or does Jamaica try and establish Williams as the man in the middle.

I think that the US is much superior on defense and midfield.

I assume the Jamaica attack will look something like this if everyone is healthy.

    Ralph-----Lisbie
    ----Euell------
    ?--Williams---?

What ever happened with Onandi Lowe's arrest on some kind of drug charges in England a while back? Anyone know?

OK, I can't vouch for that site. But damn...30,000 pounds worth of crack??? That wasn't for personal use. That's entrepeneurship.

The Gleaner had an article 2 months ago that wasn't as specific.

Exactly, so I welcome Euell with open arms.

My guess is that it will be Euell and Marlon King as starters, with Ricardo Fuller, Damani Ralph and either Deon Burton or Kevin Lisbie as the reserves. Of those 6 players, only Damani was born outside of the UK.

I do wonder exactly how long it's going to take the Jamaican FA to realize that running your entire program based on the scraps left over from other countries doesn't get you where you want to be. Oh well, good for us I guess.

Fabian Taylor out of the picture? I guess being being the best domestic scorer means nothing.

Oops, I forgot about Taylor. Euell can play midfield but that is still a lot of forwards.

Defense of: Tyrone Marshall and who?

Is Zadie likely to see any minutes? I think they had a guy named Scarlett who plays the same spot and is pretty good.

Will Shavar Thomas get a chance, he's been pretty solid for KC lately?

Steve Herdsman? He's Jamaican too, right?

Yeah, upon further inspection, just from the names I know, their attack, if unchecked could result in a few problems for us. But if the US controls the midfield (my guess with Mastro/Reyna/Armas/Zavagnin) and keeps their backs occupied, we could control the game better than the fiasco in DC during the 98WC Hexagonal.

This Jamaican team has become very top-heavy. Strikers galore, but their defense is a joke. As long as we maintain the bulk of the posession we can beat them, both home and away.

What does arena do in the back against jamaica...??

    sanneh pope gibbs and bocanegra

    armas reyna beasley and donovan...

hopefully mathis is back and a healthy casey (we all know mcbride will get the start, but I don't like mcbride against the jamaicans)

arena will want to slow down the game, get possession the usa way, create 4 or 5 good chances in the box, not push forward too much, get away with 1-0 or 1-1 type result

Yes, problematic Team Jamaica is of Team U.S.A. They are like Team Canada. Team U.S.A. find easiness toward Team Canada but not Team Jamaica. Team Canada play everyone hard. Team Jamaica only play Team U.S.A. hard and not everyone else. Tatical situation is improve.

    Jamaica: a poem

    ...with apologies to T. Giesel...

They can not beat us on a train
They can not beat us on a plane

Can't beat us on their field of rocks
They sure as heck can't beat our box

They can not beat us here or there
They can not beat us anywhere

    Scoreless draw at the Office...

    2-1 US @ Cbus

Damn, and all this time I thought Jamaicans were more into ganja!!! :)

On a serious note, the Raggae Boyz have a dangerous attack and we will have to be sharp. Our backline should include Cherundolo, Pope, Bocanegra, and Russell ( who will get a chance sometime in qualification and why not throw him out against the Jamaicans because he has speed and strength to atop them)

Ralph is a few years younger, doesn't have to hop across the pond to play (yet, at least), and is a different type of player.

    Defense is much improved.

    Reid(Scarlett)------Goodison/Stewart-------Marshall

    ------------Davis---------

We can push Mashall into Midfield and move Zaidie into his position.

Sheesh, Onandi is just one of many of the ReggaeBoyzz who have had their share of issues with the law. (I think it has something to do with Sheriff John Brown always hating them. For what? I don't know.)

Marlon King is apparently a Roy Lassiter clone who was convicted to 18 months hard-time for "posession of a stolen car" and who had previously been convicted of "wounding, theft, fraudulently using a vehicle excise licence and driving matters."

    http://www.ananova.com/news/story/sm_585117.html

And Theodore Whitmore was charged with vehicular homicide in the death of Shorty Malcolm, though he was later acquitted.

Onandi Lowe is such a huge waste(d) of potential.
But Euell is class. I don't think any one player puts Jamaica in a position to overtake the US right now, but he certainly makes them look stronger for making the Hex.
Two questions: repeat of an earlier one, will shavar thomas play? And who is in goal for them now?
