United better not have spent much on him. But I like Moreno, so I hope he is physically fit and plays hard.
THE TRADITION CONTINUES!! I'm happy he's back, though I never liked his lazy arse much. F it. I hate saying this, but it does feel good to have a Bolivian on the team. I am a Hard core united fan but it's just added value for me...wierd. VAMOS DC!!
And now we owe comp to the Scum - wonderful. Kevin Payne will find a way to screw the pooch on this one I am sure.
Leadership wise, Moreno should provide some for the young ones. Dunno if Jamie has much left in his game though. It is good to see him back.
So do we chant "Metro Reject" or "DC Reject" I'm so confused. Hope he's back in form, seriously if he's fit and if his mind is in the right place, we need him.
According to United's Website: Moreno, 30, left the Black-and-Red as part of a 2002 trade that brought Mike Petke and Earnie Stewart to United. Are they revising history and trying to make it look like we got more for Eddie and Jaime? Didn't we get Earnie with our big We-Suk allocate; I thought Ivanov came via the Metro allocation. In any event, welcome back, Jaime!
The link: http://www.dcunited.com/index.cfm?section=main&cont_id=230783 We gave up "future considerations" now and will give up "additional considerations" if he makes the 2004 final roster. Well, that's as clear as mud!
I'm REALLY hoping we see some of the 96-98 Moreno that would take players on and shoot the ball. Does "final 2004 roster" means that he has to stick around until the roster freeze date. Last season that was the last game of the season.
So Columbus owes us future considerations for Devin Barclay. We owe Scum future considerations for Jaime "I WILL NOT TAKE THE TEAM'S PKs EVER AGAIN" Moreno. SO, can we wash our hands clean of this and have Columbus negotiate directly with New Jersey. In effect, we're getting Jaime for Barclay....I like that theory.
That's certainly one way to look at it and in that context I will take that trade in a friggin' heartbeat as Barclay was utterly useless.. However, I am very skeptical of signing Moreno for a few reasons.. 1) - he's coming off of another injury.. Fitness hasn't always been priority #1 with Jaime and this bothers me greatly.. 2) His last time around these parts, he was involved in a very bad situation with the head coach and it affected the team greatly.. Nowak is another strong personality and he has to deal with him with more professionalism then he did with Hudson.. 3) Motivation.. Simply put, he doesn't have this anymore.. I know he'll say the right things at the beginning, but saying and doing this are two different animals and Jaime has shown no dedication in the past few years to getting himself in top shape both mentally and physically.. 5) Moreno being on this team will take away key minutes from Eskandarian and Martins (when he returns from injury).. Esky and Thiba are younger and hungrier than Moreno and have a greater upside at this moment than the oft injured/unmotivated Moreno 6) And finally, when Moreno does score a goal, at least act like you give a damn.. Too many times he scores and simply turns around and walks back to midfield with no emotion whatsoever.. I'm not asking Jaime to act like he scored the Golden Goal to send Bolivia to their first WC final, just give a damn once in a while.. If Moreno can curb most of these above problems, then there stands a chance that we could get a very useful player.. I still remain skeptical however..
I agree with everything you said above except this one. There's a school of thought (to which I subscribe) that holds that your reaction to scoring a goal should be business as usual--you've been there before, you'll be there again. Leave the wild celebrations to the guys who aren't going to get back any time soon. And save your strength for the next play, because the game ain' over yet, son ...
Aside from the fact that I'll be happy to have that problem from Jaime this coming season, I have to agree with Dan the Red. For the greatest effect, always act like you expect to back there real soon.
While I don't disagree with that school of thought, I think Jaime has been way too casual about it in the past.. Just look at that last PK he took for us that would have won the game against Columbus in stoppage time in 02'..
If he's healthy, then he's the sort of forward you want to be able to play a possession game. And there aren't many MLS forwards you can say that about.
Welcome back Jamie, prove me wrong and score lots of goals....oh yeah, let someone else take the PK's.
That's a VERY different thing. You're casual about celebrations, not about putting the ball in the back of the net. Taking a penalty, you are focused, you are sure, and when you strike the ball, you make certain. It's the after part that you leave to the amateurs. But you never put on your casual act until the ball's put away.
Has anyone considered the possibility of Jaime as a withdrawn forward--perhaps more of a set-up man than the goal scorer? Maybe alongside Bobby? He's played that role in the past when Marco was out for one reason or other...
