Reading B&RU Friday links. There is a GoFundMe set up for Jaime. He was injured yesterday and required reconstructive eye surgery. Here's the link: https://www.gofundme.com/f/supporti...ign=p_cp+share-sheet&utm_medium=copy_link-tip
A freak golf course accident makes me think he got hit in the eye with a golf ball. That's horrifying.
https://www.time24.news/2020/07/jaime-moreno-almost-lost-an-eye-in-an-accident-playing-golf.html "Former Bolivian striker Jaime Moreno almost lost an eye after an accident while playing golf in the United States. The Bolivian World Cup player said he hit the ball hard and it bounced off the concrete and crashed into his left eye, which required surgery. “It was such a quick accident and so stupid. The ball was in the concrete lane where the carts pass. I hit it but it bounced off an edge and it smashed my eye. A disgrace so great that it can change my life, because it is not certain that I will recover and until the blood drops, it will take time to decide if another operation is necessary. It can happen once in millions and it happened to me. We have to wait in faith for everything to return to normal, “Moreno said."
this is awful. Two things very strange: 1. that he doesnt have insurance; and 2. Goffinho in his piece points out he is staying at his daughter's place - which makes one wonder where is Louise; are they separated?
If Jaime's medical bills become substantial, the club should put on a benefit match of some kind, which is very common in England. Maybe invite a Bolivian side, or his old English clubs Middlesborough.
Louis provided the following update today: "Jaime will return tomorrow to have his stitches removed, hopefully we will have a little more information on his road to recovery. The outside of the eye is healing nicely but he is unable to see anything at this moment in time including any light. whilst the family are preparing to be strong and supportive, we are still praying and hoping for a miracle."
Latest from Louise -- doesn't look good. A quick update on Jaime after revisiting Dr Weber (surgeon) 7-30-2020 On a good note the eye has responded well to the first surgery as far as the eyeball reforming, unfortunately he continues to have no vision nor light at this time. The surgeon was surprised to see the quick response with movement from the eye because the two larger muscles were damaged in the accident. He continues to have a good amount of pressure in the eye, which is good and needed to go into the next surgery. On the other hand after speaking to Dr Garfinkel who works alongside Dr Levinson who will hopefully perform the surgery! We are aware the eye does not have a good prognosis due to the devastating damage from the golf ball but Jaime will undergo another surgery in the next week to try and save the eye. Jaime and the family are preparing for the worst case scenario, but still hold onto a little hope for a miracle. We appreciate the continued support from Family & Friends near and far, also from the people of the community and soccer world as his recovery continues. Jaime and his family feel the love ❤️
Not good news from Tuesday: Jaime's update! Jaime went on Tuesday to see the surgeon that was going to perform his surgery to find out, Unfortunately! due to the cornea being stained the surgery can no longer take place at this moment in time, and was referred to John Hopkins Hospital with the possibility of needing a cornea transplant. After spending several hrs at John Hopkins hospital the Dr's have decided due to the extent of the damage to the nerves and the surrounding eye also little hope of regaining vision no surgery will be performed at this time. He needs to continue frequent visits to the cornea specialist every 2 weeks, and try to live his life and relook the situation in a few months in hopes of a little bit of light at the end of the tunnel. We can't thank you all enough for the outpore of love, messages, calls and prayers. Thank you Jaime and Family
