Hibs is one of the Edinburgh clubs that play 2nd fiddle to the Old Firm, right? So they're the 3rd or 4th club in Scotlan? If so, yeah, maybe a nice move. But won't he need more than the first two letters of his last name to get a WP?
According to the Ives article I quoted: "McBean has UK citizenship through his Scottish-born father." EDIT: Hibs are actually in the 2nd division this season.
Looks like his loan is happening... to Coventry City. http://cornerofthegalaxy.com/2016/08/07/la-galaxys-jack-mcbean-to-go-on-loan-with-coventry-city/? LA Galaxy Striker and Homegrown player Jack McBean looks to be headed to English League 1 side, Coventry City. The loan will be for six months with a possibility of extending the agreement for a year. @bungadiri @Friedel'sAccent -- He has 1st team appearances, so let's move to YA forum and rename "Jack McBean to Coventry City."
Probably not a bad move, provided he gets playing time. League One is a good place to get noticed by championship clubs. Success there could kick start his career.
Thread title sucks. With a name like McBean, you should have given us a chance. Sigh. Something like "Climbing the McBeanstalk" or something else equally bad.
As an aside, Coventry City's Managing Director lived in the US for a long time, so he's well-versed in the US game, MLS, etc. (I've know him since grad school.)
It's fitting he'd go on loan to League One in England because Arena is operating with the Galaxy like he's Fat Sam when he's in the EPL. This is what their prospects have to do too too raise their level of play at all. This is a significant improvement over the competition in USL and vastly in terms of pressure. If he impresses, he has mobility, unlike he was enjoying with Los Dos. After this either maybe Arena or the next coach with Los Uno trusts him more, or they get an offer from a Championship club they can't refuse. Lucky for McBean he has EU/UK citizenship. Wouldn't be able to get this opportunity otherwise.
Tony Mowbray is an old English style coach. Most US forwards aren't very good in the air. Jack will probably ride the bench there and then try to impress Tony during training.
McBean is opposite to a regular American forward. He is actually pretty good in the air but extremely slow.
I haven't seen him play lately. "Slow" won't be a huge problem in League 1, as long as he can think fast. There's no time on the ball there. PS. Of course, Aaron Schonfeld washed out of MLS but his heading ability seems to be just fine in Israel.
Apparently he's starting out with the u-21's. Hopefully that's just to prove his worth over a couple of games, otherwise it's kind of a pointless, wheel-spinning move. He needs 1st team games against men of respectable ability and in front of raucous crowds, for his development.
This deal still hasn't gone through. Yesterday, Coventry went out and got a young forward from Burnley on a half-season loan, though. http://www.coventrytelegraph.net/sp...-news/who-coventry-citys-new-signing-11767006
Deal officially announced: http://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2016/08/19/la-galaxy-loan-jack-mcbean-coventry-city

Unless i am wildly mistaken in interpreting British idioms, it appears McBean scored in his first game with the U21s. Good way to start a loan.
