A blast from the past: Besides working for CSTV after leaving ESPN, former ESPN/ABC announcer Jack Edwards did a news package on US TV rights to the Olympics this week (June 6) for CNBC Europe's weekly sports news program Money and Sport. The show airs 8 times every weekend on CNBC World in the US (DirecTV channel 357, DISH Network channel 207). Next airing: Saturday June 7 at 6:30am Eastern Time. Show re-airs every 6 hours, with last airing on Sunday June 8 at 12:30pm Eastern Time.
Kudos to Jack here too ..... interesting article here http://www.unhmagazine.unh.edu/f02/making_call.html
FWIW, supposedly he's done an excellent job with Chicago. IMHO, Ty was always the problem (though Jack did go way overboard with the "mine eyes have seen the glory" stuff).
Let Jack test the factory models of the plastic inflatable bangers. That would be a great contribution to US Soccer. Ty could blow them up. As much genuine passion as Jack has for the sport, he's to soccer announcing what Tom Arnold (or me) is to marathon running. Kevin
"Microsoft today announced that second quarter earnings may not meet analyst projections, which could endanger their status as the New York Yankees of Corporate America."
I thought I had seen that report on CNBC (or one of the NBC channels) before it aired on CNBC-Europe. With NBC doing the Olympics and with soccer being on CNBC, could there be a chance that Jack will be announcing Olympic soccer (either mens or womens)?? He has announced college women's and men's soccer in the past for ESPN.
After listening to the MLS broadcasts this season, I'd rather have Jack in the booth and sent Ty to the bench.
Sounds like Edwards has a gig with NBC during the Olympics. Edwards is versatile enough to do a variety of assignments. Andres Cantor of course will be during Futbol Olimpico for Telemundo. I did not realize that Edwards' package also aired on CNBC. I usually don't watch Business Center US. I watch US Squawk Box, Europe Squawk Box, and Money and Sport.
