Big Soccer calls it: FC Dallas' poor opening day attendance has caught the eyes of the ownership group, who are meeting to discuss relocating the team According to Ives, "the cities in consideration are: St. Louis, Baltimore, and Montreal" Source
Funny, there are rumors reported about Colorado moving too. Must be a busy day on the calender for MLS.
2:00 in the afternoon, and this is the first one I've seen. I'd actually forgotten the date. I guess the political sites I read in the morning are too stuffy to participate in this annual tradition. ------RM
LOL, before i clicked the link i thought "Yes, it's about time". Good joke. At least we are capable of getting more DP's now.
That was way too out there to even be credible. There is a market for soccer in Dallas what they need is new ownership or better marketing. I think the FC Dallas rebranding was a failure IMHO but that's a story for another thread.
Man. I'm feeling so slow this morning. This is the third time I've been snookered today. I gotta say, though, I'm bummed this isn't legit!
There is a soccer market in Dallas for soccer, but not in Frisco, TX...Location is a bigger factor than changing the name from Dallas Burn to FC Dallas...
I heard they were going to take the profits from the FC Dallas sale and build the Crew a Red Bull Arena style SSS in the Arena District in downtown Columbus Source
Joke today... Not likely to be a laugher much longer if attendance doesn't improve. The league is likely feeling pretty full of itself with the success of Seattle and Toronto. The thinking is that putting a team in the right market with the right ownership group is the solution an under performing market problem. The whole move of San Jose to Houston and finding a new ownership group and stadium plan in San Jose play should not be ignored. It is likely to be repeated. Lots of NFL, NBA, MLB examples.
I realize it was an April Fool's Day joke and all. But OP didn't even try that hard. Really, Montreal, really? If he had've used Miami instead of Montreal, I'd have actually clicked the link. But no team will be relocating to Montreal unless the Saputo family buys the team. That market essentially belongs to them.
I know this is an April Fools thread, and maybe I'm crotchety today, but I jsut don't find the Move xxx stuff funny at all. --Former Cosmos, NASL, Original MLS Earthquakes Fan.
Not only that.........but there should be a 1 April Fool's Joke Maximum on the US boards. There was a great one by Buzz this morning regarding FCD signing Carlos Ruiz. That one worked really well, because it was somewhat plausible. Everyone should have said, "well, there's the April Fool's Joke" and refrained from posting their nonsense. All these other ones are just people dicking around. FC Dallas isn't moving anywhere anytime soon. There's a big difference between the San Jose franchise that moved.........and FC Dallas of today. That difference is Pizza Hut Park. I'd bet some good money that FCD is actually mid-table when it comes to the money generation department. (i.e. not losing as much money as other franchises, despite the lousy attendance) And THAT's the bottom line.......not attendance.
