Didn't see this anywhere, but Ives Galarcep is reporting that Peter Nowak will be our team's first head coach. Nowak definitely has a personality that will endear him to Philadelphia sports fans. I like this move a lot http://www.soccerbyives.net/soccer_...med-philadelphia-unions-first-head-coach.html
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union Wow... well love him or hate him, I think he's a solid acquisition. The real question is if he can build a squad from nothing. He did turn around a DC team, that prior to 2004 was really bad and lead them to a cup in a single season... but how much of that was Nowak and how much was Payne et al. is up for debate I suppose. but we have our first member of the club who actually matters on the field! Great news there!
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union Just about the best hire I could have realistically hoped for. More of a track record would make me feel more comfortable and I was disappointed with the Olympic team's performance including his coaching. But, I still think this was the right move. It's particularly great to the team didn't go out looking for a low-cost option. That bodes well for the future.
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union This is a good choice to start a franchise. Could have done FAR worse.
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union If true, a solid pick. I'm most excited to have a Manager in so early. This will give him an opportunity to scout some games and see players he might now be familiar with.
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union i dont know much about him but from what i just read he seems like a great coach for the team
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=650473&cc=5901 ESPN picked up this story.
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union He values hard work and discipline to start with. As a playing style he likes a 3-5-2, and loves to have his Midfielders work the ball. Strictly grass-mowing ball rather than boom ball. With DCU, he created sides that would dominate the midfield with their possession and hard work, but his weakness was in managing his players - he burned them out by the end of the season.
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union That first DCU game of the Nowak era was night and day from the last one of the Hudson era. The team was fitter. Off-ball movement was emphasized with quick passing. The team did not become dominant until Gomez was added, but played very well before then. Eskandarian and Carroll had languished on the bench under Hudson and started from day one under Nowak. As I stated in the other thread, Nowak was a Larry Brown type who eventually burned out DC, but for two or three years he'll be great for a start-up. EDIT: and the title should be Nowak to coach THE Union. Yes - use of Anglicisms in this sport piss me off
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union so has anyone heard anything else about this supposed press conf on fri?
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union No Anglicisms; just headline syntax. Would you object if the headline was "Nowak to coach Rapids" or "Nowak to coach Crew"?
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union "We have learned that there is a presser at 2:00 tomorrow in Chester." Do they not want the sobs there?

Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union They are on twitter all the time and cover all the philly sports. One stop shopping.
Re: Ives: Nowak to coach Union Probably a good choice. Incredible player. Verdict is still out on his coaching. He is a total hard ass that can easily alienate players. He does believe in physically fit, attack-minded players and he will probably coach to an attack-minded philosophy. I think this is probably a very good choice for you.
