no news but Ives' stuff is always worth reading

    http://soccernet.espn.go.com/columns/story?id=353104&root=us&cc=5901

    "Current Projected World Cup roster

G - Kasey Keller, Tim Howard, Marcus Hahnemann

D - Oguchi Onyewu, Carlos Bocanegra, Steve Cherundolo, Eddie Pope, Cory Gibbs, Gregg Berhalter, Jonathan Spector

M - Claudio Reyna, DaMarcus Beasley, Eddie Lewis, Pablo Mastroeni, John O'Brien, Bobby Convey, Steve Ralston, Clint Dempsey.

F - Brian McBride, Landon Donovan, Eddie Johnson, Josh Wolff, Brian Ching"

Gotta think Twellman makes it instead of Ching.

And bringing both Pope and Berhalter seems redundant; bet Hejduk makes it in place of one of them.

Also, Ralston still has to prove he's quality enough. I don't think Quaranta is much better at this point, though.

    Where's Freddy?

As I suggested in a other thread, I will bet you one dollar that freddy will be on this team ... at the expense of ralston if the above list is accurate.

for all his flaws, i'd feel more comfortable with Ralston than Quaranta....but alot can happen in these next few months.

I also feel hejduk will make his way on this team....i have a feeling one of those CB's Ives listed is going to be injured

although he stunk up the joint in scotland and pissed everyone off,we should atleast be fair to Ching, he has been injured for a long time

as for Ralston, the Metrostar's Seth Stammler completley took him out of the series when they met in the playoffs,,,Seth Freaken Stammler ppl

I like the team Ives predicted just fine - I would be happy with it - but unless he gets hurt or does something really stupid, I think freddy will be on this roster - I think he is the only guy arena will roll the dice with this cycle.

I'm a Spector fan, but he's stunk up the joint for club and country--lately.

Eddie Pope hasn't been excelling for club or country for about two years.

Clint Dempsey hasn't shown anything at the Nats level.

Steve Ralston has shown he's too slow and too small for the international
    level.

Tim Howard. How does a GK who doesn't play regularly and has ************ed on
too many occasions deserve to be on the team?

The above is an inaccurate statement on multiple levels. He was the english goalkeeper of the year a couple of years. He sees probably one the highest pressure environments every day in practice and will get some quality matches this year. His "screwups" have been blown way out of proportion. ... and the final point, who is a better candidate than him.

Yeah. On one hand, yes, that lineup looks plausible. If it were last March it would be just right. But now? It looks dated. And as time goes on through the winter it will look more and more uninspired. What's wrong with it? In every case the more marginal newcomers are left off (with the possible exception of Pierce who was a flavor of the month last spring). Guaranteed there will be 1-4 guys not listed on the final roster.

'english goalkeeper of the year a couple of years' ago. Yeah he made
a big splash the first half of the year.

The manager felt uncomfortable enough with him to go out and buy a keeper
    despite pressing needs elsewhere.

    Reiss and Cannon.

You never turn down a van der saar when he becomes available.

No offense intended, but you think reis and cannon are more ready for the world cup spotlight than howard? ... you might have had me with johnny walker.

My prediction for the final 23:

    GK: Keller, Hahnemann, Howard
D: Gooch, Gibbs, Bocanegra, Pope, Cherundolo, Lewis, Hejduk, Albright
MF: Donovan, Beasley, Reyna, Mastroeni, Convey, Quaranta, Dempsey, Clark*
    F: McBride, Johnson, Ching, Rolfe

Alternates: Reis, Berhalter, Spector, Mapp, Olsen, Wolff

    * - I don't think O'Brien will be healthy

preach on brotha...ManU was going through a rough patch and Timmy was takeing alot of the heat. The fact that he's takeing the heat and challenging himself on a super club by staying there and fighting for a starting job is makeing me respect him even more.

... as I would be by chelsea, real madrid, arsenal, ac milan, boca, you name it ... a first team player on these type of teams should be on our national team ... at this stage, we are not developed enough as a soccer nation to expect otherwise.

anyone who seriously thinks our goalkeepers won't be Keller, Howard, and Hahnemann does not deserve to be taken seriously on these here boards. It's...it's just ********ing obvious.

Seriously, the argument is getting old. It's blatantly obvious who our three top-choice keepers are, and they are the same three that BA prefer.

    Keller, Howard, Hahnemann

Now continue debating the positions that are still up in the air.

1 cap between them. Even if Howard goes as the #3 behind Hahnemann, he's still better to take then any domestic MLS keeper. Also, I think Bruce takes the three Euros because taking an MLS keeper would keep a key player away from his team for at least a month.... There's really no reason to take one unless someone in the trio from Europe gets injured...

This should end the discuss on whether Ralston makes the team. What other team in our group would have a player, water boy even, shut down by Stammler. Maybe he should get a camp!

Has Arena specifically stated what three keepers he'd take?

Not based on his Nats performances, but it's all moot if Keller stays healthy...
