From the MLS combine report, Ray seems like that's the case. Reading the tea leaves, I also think we'll be trading some picks based on the comment about "one or two players from this Combine."

    http://www.mlsnet.com/content/03/combine0113notes.html

“Last year we improved substantially over previous years and that ship is starting to turn around,” Hudson said. “I think we’ve made some nice trades with Kovalenko and the Bulgarian coming in and we’ll land our No. 9 player very shortly and he’s going to be a high quality player. I’d be happy to go to war with this current D.C. United group. And if we can augment it with one or two players from this Combine, we’ll be fine.”

So is Stewart the number 9 or is JMM?

Him or Stoitchkov I guess are the Bulgarians.

Getting Stewart makes Eskandarian expendable...in theory...but I think Eskandarian, Stewart and Quaranta could provide a nice rotation along with either Q2 or Curtis.

It seems like the reports are more and more positive that he will be signed, that's for sure.

You know, this guy seems to be flying in under the radar. All the talk now is about Stewart and allocations and now the draft and almost nothing about this guy. Of course we don't no nothin' about him, but his signing might be more crucial than any of the others.

It would be Earnie. I wouldn't expect us to go for both.

I think we should still go for Esky because Earnie can mentor all those guys and fill in at midfield for Etch and even Ben in a pinch. I know he hates playing on the right, but if he can do it occasionally to keep Ben healthy I say go for it.

Agreed (see my most recent post in the Earnie thread). I was referring to JMM.

I, too, think they should go for the best player in the draft with the #1 pick...and that's Eskandarian :)

we'll only get 1 or 2 seasons out of Earnie - the perfect situation for adding Eskandarian to Tino

My God, do we need the season to begin.

So we might have two Bulgarians, a Bolivian, a Honduran, a Kiwi, a Ukranian and a Baltimoron on the field at the same time? Holy melting pot, Batman!

And a Salvadoran and a Peruvian and a half-Dutchman, and coached by a Limey.

    Who's the Peruvian?

10 bucks MLS announces something between 4 and 4:30.

    Who's the other Bulgarian?

Presumably the reference is to the potential Stoichkov trade.

How could I forget Tino and Ivan. And argo is right, Hristo was the other Bulgarian I was referencing.

Oh, right. I haven't made up my mind as to whether or not I think that's going to happen.

Sheesh. Throw a couple Indians, a Korean and a Filipino on the roster, and you could either be talking about DC United or the residents on any floor of my apartment building. :D

FWIW, a Dallas paper is making it sound like the half-Dutchman will definitely be playing for us.

    See Detective40's Earnie Stewart thread.

Tell me what you have heard? Some one told me it was a done deal, so I want to know what that means as far as our allocations. It looks like one has been used on Stewart. I like tha tone but I'm not sure about using one on Ivanov.
