Perugia now has a chance to stay in A thanks to a Jay Bothroyd goal in a 1-0 win over Ancona. Who does Perugia play and when?
No. They play whichever team finishes 6th in Serie B. Currently, Piacenza is in that spot. The playoff can't be held until after the Serie B season ends on June 12. The dates are tentatively set to be June 16 and 20. Meanwhile, Perugia has to stay together in training just waiting for their opponent to be determined. How bizarre. And to think, their season started last July in the InterToto Cup.
BTW, the scenes of tension and emotion at the stadium in Perugia were pretty amazing after their game had finished, and everybody listened on the radio for the other results which confirmed their place in the playoff. I've never seen Cosmi overcome with emotion like that. And of course, Gaucci was dancing a jig. No talk of conspiracies for now. After the playoff, perhaps ...
Does anybody know if Perugia will be playing any friendlies in the coming weeks to stay in game form? I hope not... ;-) Nick
Certainly. According to their website, they play Iraklis Salonicco (who finished 8th in Greece) on Saturday. The bad news for Perugia is they just lost midfielder Fabio Gatti, who was injured while training with the U-21 team in Germany ahead of the U-21 European Championships. In anticipation of Perugia losing in the playoff (which, if it happens, will certainly be all because of the refs ), Gaucci has just sold Serie B club Catania.
No! He knows they will win and he needs the money to buy some young talent....hello! call for Mr. Damarcus Beasley! (although I would never wish Gaucci on anyone)
Does anyone know why Gaucci wants no part of Fiorentina in the relegation playoff? He would rather face Atalanta or Piacenza. Is there some history there? http://www.sportinglife.com/footbal...04/05/25/SOCCER_Ita-Serie_B.html&TEAMHD=italy I find it kind of ironic that Gaucci doesn't want to face Fiorentina in the playoff, but his (formerly owned) Cantania club will determine that fact this weekend in Serie B.
