well were all done with the polls, averaging nearly 100 votes per - thanks everybody - the unoffical BS XI:

    .......................friedel
    .............nesta............stam
    maldini................................roberto carlos
    .......................davids
    ....pires.................................giggs
    .......................zidane
    ..............raul................henry

    the bench:
kahn, rio, chivu, cafu, vieira, beckham, ballack, ronaldo, vieri

id say we did an aces job - cant be too many complaints with this squad - dare i suggest theyd match up nicely against the world all star team of most any age

and yes i know maldini is a left sided defender, but roberto carlos took the most votes so he gets first shot at LB - im sure paolo could manage lol

Friedel made you laugh? He's one of the world's best keepers. Number 2 next to David Seaman of course... :D

He is one of the best keepers in the world, but it shows how American this site is, as I think most premiership observers would put Cudicini ahead, probably Dudek as well.

I won't disagree with Cudicini as an argument can be made that he had as good a year as Friedel if not better, but anyone who lists Dudek ahead of Friedel based on this last year is well, um, Polish.

Sticking to those in the poll, my team was...

    ------- Friedel
    ----- Rio -- Nesta
    Maldini --------- Carlos
    ------- Keane
    Beckham ------- Pires
    ------- Zidane
    ---- RVN ---- Henry

On the bench, I'd have Kahn, Chivu, Cafu, Viera, Figo, Giggs and Raul.

If I could deviate from those in the polls, I'd take Cudicini over Kahn. It's a toss up who would start between him and Friedel.

Didn't Blackburn and Chelsea go head to head not too long ago with Friedel putting up the clean sheet and Blackburn taking the points? And we aren't just talking league season, we're talking World Cup as well.

Its not just about this season, Dudek was brilliant last season and has not been bad this year except for a couple of high profile errors. As for the international aspect, you can hardly fault Cudicini, he has Buffon and Toldo ahead of him, and is discriminated against because he play in England.

Ever since Friedel left Liverpool, he has played very well. Only since coming to England, has he elevated his game. Cudicini is playing awesome this year, but doesn't have a history like Kahn, Dudek, or Toldo. In current terms, I would take (in order) Kahn, Friedel, Cudicini, Toldo, Dudek, of those mentioned. Throw Casallas and Buffon (sp?) in ahead of Dudek (on current form), in order, and that is who I'd chose.

If I were a manager this would be my dream team...

    -------------------- Kahn (Buffon)----------------

    --------Nesta (Cannavaro)---Ferdinand (Chivu)---

    Thuram (Cafu)-------------------R.Carlos (Maldini)

    --------------------Davids (Ballack)--------------

    Beckham (Figo)-----------------------Pires (Giggs)

    --------------------Zidane (Rivaldo)-------------

    -------Henry (Vieri) ------------Raul (v.Nistelrooy)

GK: I thought it was an accepted fact that Kahn was the best goalkeeper in the world, especially after the world cup, but I guess everyone doesn't share my view. Buffon is also an excellent keeper.

CBs: Personally I think Nesta is the best defensive player in the world, and Ferdinand is also great. My two subs are Cannavaro and Chivu, both great young players who still capable of getting better.

RB: Thuram and Cafu - Both are excellent defensively, use their speed to push the ball up the right side, and are world cup winners.

LB: R.Carlos and Maldini - R.Carlos if I want to play a more up tempo offensive game, Maldini if I want to play flawless defense.

DM: Davids was my pick for defensive midfielder, and he was the runaway winner in the poll as well. Although Ballack was listed under attack midfielder in the poll, I have him as my backup defensive midfielder. He often plays a defensive role for Bayern Munich, so I know he could handle the role. I think Ballack is a lot better than Vieria, and I didn't want to pick Keane because of his hip problem that keeps him out of action. I would sub Ballack in if I wanted the team to play even more offensively.

RW: Beckham was my pick because of excellent passing and crosses, his work ethic on the pitch, and of course his free kicks. Figo is just as good if not better than Beckham offensively, but he is the backup because his defensive effort is lacking.

LW: Pires was my pick, an excellent goal scorer who plays with incredible pace. Giggs is my backup, he is a great passer with great speed and ball control. I also considered Nedved, especially because of his powerful long range shot.

AM: Zidane is the obvious pick for this position. The best all-around offensive midfielder in the world, excellent ball control, great passing, creativity, and goal scoring. What more could you ask for? I had a hard time choosing between Rivaldo and Totti for the second spot, but in the end I chose Rivaldo.

Strikers: Henry, because of his speed, passing, and shooting, and Raul, because of his control, passing, shooting and finishing, are my top two strikers. For backups I chose two similar strikers, van Nistelrooy and Vieri, both because of their strength and predatory goal scoring instincts inside the 18 yard box. Other strikers that deserve honorable mention are Del Piero, Trezeguet, Owen, Shevchenko, Inzaghi, Ronaldo, and Kluivert.

    Brazil 3

You couldn't play Henry with Raul cos they are to similar you need someone to hold the ball up. And i'd put Given and Cudicini ahead of Freidel (he let 5 in against us yesterday)
