A tidbit from Earnie (more in the story): "My wife and I truly believe that the Washington, D.C. area is a great place for our family to be," added Stewart. "We look forward to seeing what the American lifestyle is like. I am very excited to make this move to a class organization like D.C. United and Major League Soccer."

    And, of note:

"Stewart will join United for training the first week of February."

Great acquistion by DC United! Bringing in such a quality player to a young side will be of tremendous value. Kudos to the black and red and cheers to Earnie--we're estatic to have you. Two thumbs up!

great pics lowecifer. I can't wait until the season starts. We've got Ernie!!! I hope we pack the stadium this year. Does anybody find themselves dreaming of a sunny summer day at RFK, with a beer in hand, and an echoing D - C - United ringing in your ears?

I've paid so little attention to the NFL this year because of DCU and BS. And that my team is out of the playoffs, I've only got the Nats until March Madness and the March 12 opener (assuming I don't make it to any preseason matches)

    Wow!!

We are picking up Earnie Stewart (world class player) and looks like Stoitchkov too (former WORLD PLAYER OF THE YEAR!!!)

    I have ALWAYS loved Stoitchkov

    Earnie Stewart I like too

The only question I have is the same everybody has-how much gas do these guys still have left

I see Stewart with his midfield skills replacing Moreno. We still need a TARGET forward, Stoitchkov can play that, Quaranta, Eskandarian, Curtis

I still want Convey in the middle with Etch tracking back and providing the holding link from the back like last year. Stewart up front where Moreno used to be. Kovalenko shouldn't replace Convey in the middle

We have our penalty kick taker. Yes he missed a PK vs Honduras, but we're talking MLS llevel here not CONCACAF

Wow what an exciting season coming up. Season can't start soon enough all this TALK and no actual play!!!

Big welcome to DC United Earnie Stewart you picked the BEST organization to come to!! I'll never forget an interview where Earnie said how much he wanted soccer to be appreciated his home country the US like it is elsewhere around the world

anybody care to post a projected lineup now that Stewart is in the mix? I haven't been able to keep up with all the comings and goings. Thanks in advance.

championships aside, i think this is the coolest thing that has happened to me as a fan.

god knows we've needed a proven finisher.

like everyone else, my question is where does he play, forward or central mid?

i'll go with him as a forward in 3-5-2

    quaranta stewart

    convey kovalenko ???? etch olsen

    petke/prideaux nelson reyes

    rimando

etch has done a lot for this team, but i'm not sure how he fits in with everyone now. it seems to me that this team is best suited for fast-paced play.

    who plays d-mid?
maybe reyes moves to d-mid and we play prideaux and petke although the idea of having petke on the field a lot doesn't excite me.

looks like we might be depending on a draft pick to step in there.
