CNN: Snoop Dogg has his own TV show. I think it's pretty safe to say that Snoop Dogg is something of a lifestyle icon for most of us Gen-X aged men, regardless of race. The man hasn't missed a beat musically, from Nuthin' but a G Thang to Beautiful. I don't know many who could ape his style and get away with it, and there's no denying his innate sense of cool. If I had a choice for the Jack Nicholson of the Galaxy, it would certainly be Snoop. Hell, we nearly play in tha LBC. Forza Snoop!
One of my best friends, former coworker, and golf partner is 45 and a jazz freak. He plays here regularly in Portland, and he's dragged me to more Jazz guitar sessions than I can count. Don't get me wrong, the technique and the sound of jazz guitar players is amazing, but I hate the music. Wandering around aimlessly, no structure, no point, I don't get it, and I doubt I ever will. In contrast, I've dragged him to a few classical guitar sessions. I picked up the love for the genre while in Spain, and well-played classical guitar in my opinion is among the best music in the world. John, my jazz loving friend, thinks differently. He believes us classical guitar players and fans are mindless robots with no ingenuity. He thinks I should train a monkey to play classical guitar and set him out on a street corner to collect. Anyway, we're like this on everything. I think Traffic is one of the best movies ever, he thought it sucked. I hate Training Day and thought Denzel's Oscar from it was a lifetime achievement award, he thought it was a once in a lifetime performance. We agree on nothing... Except Snoop. You just gotta love Snoop. MoFo's the coolest dude out there...
