"(CP) - Alouettes president Skip Prince reckons his CFL team is getting a bum rap in the debate over the new artificial surface at Montreal's Molson Stadium. McGill University, which owns the facility, has decided on FieldTurf - a popular artificial grass made by a Montreal-based company. Now the issue is what lines should adorn that surface. And how permanent they should be." http://ca.sports.yahoo.com/030411/6/sn4v.html
I'm a McGill alumnus and I've been to the Molson stadium several times between 94 to 98. It's cozy stadium even before the renovation and I think it would make a great soccer stadium. How good is that FieldTurf stuff? I suppose that it will never match the quality of real grass, but I guess maintenance will be much cheaper in the long run?
Excellent, especially for a field that will get so many teams and games on it. Concordia is also switching in 2003. There is little-to-no maintenance, except painting the lines if they (hopefully) go for a green field.
No, there are plenty similar fields in the CIS, including ULaval and UdM. And in a recent "La Presse" article, the Als' president Skip Prince isn't backing down. I think that the university/city/CSA will win because the Alouettes really don't have anywhere else to go. People hate the Big O if it's for every game.
I went to an Als game when I was up in Montreal a few years ago - what a great place to play! It's nice, up on top of the hill, very cozy. And they don't stop selling beer in the 4th quarter!
