No false alarm this time - the State Senate is poised to announce the $45M in funding that has been holding the whole thing up. Stuff could still go wrong, but this was the last big step.

    Congratulations, Philadelphia.

I can't wait to waste these fools. We'll have at least 1-2 years to take out all our frustrations on their sad expansion team, and what long-suffering Metro fan can't look forward to that?

In other news, D.C. United just lost half of its fanbase.

They'll come back after the mentioned '1-2 years'.

More short road trips to go on, too. It's such a good deal for RBNY fans, to get to see more live games. Buy up every away supporters seat you can, make it RB Park West.

    Thanks!

    Quite an overstatement :p
There are a few former DC United fans amongst us, but I think the majority are kind of like me: a bunch of Philly homers who have refused to support an MLS club until we received our own local.

And to further my point--I've been to MLS matches in both DC and in the Meadowlands, but I've been to more Red Bull games since it's closer (heck I even went to Chicago last year to watch RBNY).

I look forward to yet another Philly-NY sports rivalry to invest in. Cheers, boys!

Welcome to the league Philly. Always nice to see another city receive funding for MLS, even if it is Philly ;)

    So you're a defector?

JK. I hope your funding is approved and you get your franchise as soon as possible. The stadium design looks very nice btw.

I'm really thrilled they got the franchise there as it will be so much fun kicking Philly's arse in yet another sport. Spent the weekend there at a conference. Good God that city is crap. You know that Strokes song about NYC cops? Could be revised for Philly, instead of "they're not too smart" to "they just don't care." Having been to DC & Philly in the past few weeks, I now know where all the homeless went. It is so very sad, an absolute disgrace. Thanks, Philly, for all you did during the Revolution, now how's about doing something positive NOW?

The Philadelphia Inquirer had a nice article on yesterday's (Sunday) front page, focusing on MLS, SUM and the global approach to the sport here. Apparently, Philly will attempt a partnership with a foreign club. I gained an appreciation for the RB relationship, in that our sister club doesn't dwarf our own. There seems to be a nice balance between Salzburg and New York (too bad the weather postponed this weekend's doubleheader there).

It will be interesting to see what club will partner with Philly and if the team's identity is linked as it is with RB, Chivas and Real. My hope is they will link with Boca and be called Philly Juniors.

Should be roughly a two hour drive to Chester, so the rivalry will be intense.

    Oh we
    Hate Philly
    We hate Philly
    We hate
    We hate
    We hate Philly!
    :D

Can it ever match our hatred for DC?

No, because Philly will be a joke for a while. Same with NYC2 if/when it ever comes. We will say the word "Philly" and let out a hearty chuckle...I mean, face it, it sounds funny.

I'm originally from South Jersey, so generally like Philadelphia teams. I'm still an RBNY supporter, but there's no way that FC Cheesesteak will ever earn my hatred the way DC has.
