Well, considering he's currently under contract and cannot even talk to other teams unless we ok it, and considering no one has asked to talk to him as of last week, I'd say no.
Re: I heard a rumor in Boston... I heard he's flying out to Foxboro for the MLS Cup, but he'll be back Monday. He's been named as a possible new coach for the MetroStars, but nobody can see it actually happening because of personality conflicts with the front office.
http://www.nj.com/sports/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1035018930151190.xml When reached last night, Bradley would not confirm any deal is in the works, but said "You always think about (coming home). In a profession like coaching, it's not always possible to make all those choices. It doesn't always work that way. "The organization in Chicago, the team we have, all that's been great. My family is happy there and it's a great place to live. It's been a great situation here."
not ************ing good... the only possibly good thing about this is that nick is still there... that gives credence to this not being true
How about Clint Mathis for compensation? Clint is in the dog house anyway in NY. Or we let them have Bradley and another player for Mathis and a first rounder. I hate to see Bob leave but if he wants to be closer to home what can we do. Give them Wolf and Bradley for Mathis and A first rounder. Wolf for Mathis is an even swap in salary I think, which would not hurt the salary cap. Who should be the next coach? Do we hire from within (Hamlett)? Or do we go outside the orginization (Mooch, Dir, Zambrano)?
You have an interesting idea, but I think we're in a position where we have to help our salary cap position, and this swap and the resulting wash in terms of salary may not be enough.
Based on that article, I'd say you've lost your coach. He used the past tense not once, but twice in his quote. And his "I will neither confirm nor deny" is right on target for someone making plans to leave. It's the only one that makes true sense if Arena is not coming back. To me it make more sense to hire Arena, but he's not leaving USSF. So now the NY franchise gets the Fire coach to help all of MLS financially. It also makes sense because that means Nicky boy won't have anything to do with the soccer side, just the business side. That might be more important to Bob than the last 10 k on his salary. Too bad if true. Bradley was a very good reason that the Burn vs. Fire rivalry was soooo good. I hope you hire another jerk we can learn to hate.
This is devasting. Not only to lose Bob, but to lose Bob to New York. I find this very hard to believe as Bob HATES Nick. If true, turning this team around is going to be a big mess.
Bradley to be coming to Metros - Newark Star Ledger http://www.nj.com/metrostars/ledger/index.ssf?/base/sports-0/1035018930151190.xml
how is that even close to an even trade? Bob is the most important coach in this league. He is the Fire. It would take something spectacular for me to ever consider someone outside the organization to be coach
For those who say Bradley can't move because of MLS rules, I ask you to remember that this is MLS where the rules are whatever it is convenient for the league office's wishes to be made true. As for Bob hating Nick, maybe that's true but Bob is also a professional who can work with almost anyone on a professional basis. It's no secret the league has tried to build the Rotmasters into a winning side ever since day one. They've tried stacking the Mutts with players numerous times and it's failed. Then they tried stacking the Mutts with players AND getting a better coach in and since Oz had a decent record with LA they probably figured he was their guy. Now that hasn't worked, so why shouldn't they send the adversity-tested Bob Bradley to sort out the mess in New Jersey?
No. Noooooo! This is all a bad dream. Say it ain't so. This is not even funny. You thought we were a bad team without Armas, Wolff, Nowak... just see how we are without Bradley.
since were all confused, and just blurting stuff out, how about we get Dir, he convinces kriess to come, so kriess mathis up front, and dir, with a new goalkeeper----we at least make the playoffs for the next six years
This has allieviated my dread temporarily. A good joke, and well-executed. Seriously, the mere possibility of this happening is worth a march on the front office in protest.
I dunno, I think that Dallas fans might dislike Dir coming here enough to make it worth our while to let it happen. He's not a bad coach either, replacing one of the winningest coaches in the history of the league with another one isn't a bad thing.
As long as we are compensated fairly, and Peter finds a quality replacement. I say let him go.I'd hate to say this but we are becoming the KC Chiefs of MLS.. and Bob is our Marty SHottenheimer.Great coach.. will get you to the playoffs every year. But just doesnt have the stuff to lead a champion year in and year out. He built a quality side in 98, some of it was luck and some of it was his genuine eye for talent. I think its time the Fire break the MLS coaching mold.. lets move away from the Amature college coaches and foreign guys who coached twenty years ago. We need someone who has played the game at the highest level , who knows the league and its players, someone who knows the Fire, its fans, , someone who loves this team... Screw the MLS coaching recycleing program. We are the Fire, we are above that.We dont need Dir or any of them.Bob brought us our First glory.. it's time to for the Fire to shake up the league for the second time. I say lets give either Hristo or Peter their chance at coaching.
