    I vaguely remember that now.

Well, I'm a proponent of that 4-4-2 diamond or 4-3-1-2 that we played vs. Bulgaria, and Marchisio was an integral part of that on the leftish of midfield, but Galloppa can certainly slot in there.

Nice to see Candreva, every time I've watched Livorno he looks intelligent with the ball; and I guess Cassani and Maggio are the ones fighting for the 2nd RB spot since Santon has gone missing.

    Re: Squad vs Holland?

santon was hyped up too early. still a great prospect, but needs to first spend some time on the u21s, play well there and then fight for his spot at inter like balotelli did last season when he was benched for a period. he is still very young and i expect him to eventually be a great player for the azzurri, just not in 2010.

one player in particular i'm glad to see having an excellent season so far is chiellini, he has been terrific, providing assists, dominating in the air, marking well, scoring goals, the whole package right now.

Gotta say, this is probably the most impressive (and reassuring) squad list that I've seen since Lippi took over again. This time around he's FINALLY awarding call ups based on actual merit and form, instead of simply calling up his buddies. Of course, it still kinda sucks that Miccoli and Cassano have been overlooked yet again, but at least guys like Pazzini, Palladino, Cassani, and Maggio have been deservingly thrown into the mix. I dread having to see Marchionni's name there again though. Especially over someone like Foggia.

    I would start this.

    -Maggio - Criscito - Chiellini - Santon
    ---De Rossi --- Palombo------
    --Camroanesi --Pirlo --- Rossi
    ----------Pazzini-------------

    Santon's not there.

I personally wouldn't mind giving Maggio a try at RM either.

De Rossi is injured, not sure if he'll be replaced.

    Maggio--Palombo--Pirlo--Marchionni
    ------Gilardino---Camoranesi-------

    Against Sweden:

    -----------Marchetti-----------
    Maggio-Chiellini-Bocchetti-Cassani
    -----Biondini-Pirlo-Galloppa----
    ---------Candreva--------
    -------Pazzini-Palladino--------

Maggio IS NOT a RWB, sorry guys. Keep him in the midfield, because he sucks defensively. I would also like to say that DeSanctis is looking like his old self, good as the 2nd gk.

Apparently he's gonna need surgery after that barbarian Vieira cracked him in the side of the skull with his elbow, so chances are very likely he won't be taking part in these friendlies. Not sure who Lippi would consider replacing him with though. Perhaps Brighi? How come D'Agostino was left off this list? Did he get injured as well?

Indeed. Maggio kinda reminds me of Cicinho in the respect that he's a natural midfielder who's very attack-minded, but is for some reasoned forced into playing a fullback role.

Maggio is good when coming in on the counter. He becomes the third forward. He would work well in a 433

He's been playing well, right? Wouldn't it have been better to call up a CDM though of someone more defensive minded?

    Re: Squad vs Holland?

From the decent number of Fiorentina games I've seen, Montolivo has been playing alright but I wouldn't say he's shown anything special. Aquilani has played only 15 minutes in a Carling Cup match; he is no where near ready to reenter the squad.

Played 15 mins vs. Arsenal in the Carling Cup a few weeks ago; supposed to get his first EPL time off the bench today in the match against Birmingham.

Montolivo doesn't deserve the call IMO. Without De Rossi and Marchisio we need someone with a bit more grit. The one positive this might turn into is Montolivo recognizes he's accessory at the moment, and puts in a great effort.

Interesting list. Pazzini has come back, so the conspiracy theorists can give a rest to the theory he's on a 'black-list' I suppose. Other positives are in regards to players who have been in form getting a look, like Cassani again, Criscito and perhaps Bocchetti might get a full game.

Is this Palladino's first call under Lippi? I had high hopes for him while at Juve, but he never seemed capable of staying consistent. I know Donadoni liked him in Camoranesi's role in his 4-3-3, and he had a great game vs Portugal, but fell off the map after that.

Yes. His only two caps came under Donadoni in 2007.

mark my words, zambrotta will cause a disaster in the world cup :(
this is why i like to see players like santon get a chance.....zambrotta is too old and cannot come back to defend anymore after he pushes forward.
