99 Posse are really good. I can barely understand their lyrics, maybe less than 20%.

IMHO One of the best ways to learn and/or practice a language (at least if you're lazy like me) is to listen to a song while reading the lyrics, better if you have a translation at hand.

    http://www.gruppogrezzo.com/mp3/Mp3T.htm

change the extension to .mp3 (sometimes you have to put the given password when it is a zip file).

Of course this suggestion is made to invite ppl to buy italian stuff after a promotional listening.

If you like 99 posse you should like frankie hi-nrg mc, this is my suggestion (use a filesharing prog to find and listen to the song).

Frankie Hi-nrg Mc - Quelli Che Benpensano

niente scrupoli o rispetto verso i propri simili
in costante escalation col vicino costruiscono :

This is how my husband learned English when he moved to the US. That and watching sitcoms on TV. I'll date him and say that, to this day, he loves Pink Floyd and Jackson Brown songs and reruns of Taxi. :D

The question is how old was he when he moved.
I remember Taxi, Floyd and Jackson Brown as well. I'm guessing mid 40's.

I know something of Jackson Brown...

While Pink Floyd... well I know everything (and i have everything). Well no maybe I lack some bootleg... :)

Surely also one of my schoolbooks...

As a songwriter and folk singer i like James Taylor (what a voice) (well, a part from Robert Zimmerman).

This is fun, James Taylor has participated to a Elio e le storie tese (they play good music and humorism) cd.

Read what he sung, let's call it italian-english.

    FIRST ME, SECOND ME

    (here Elio sings)
    First me.

I would like to writing and singing a song in english,
tongue that I've studied at the medium school.
I'd surely find the way to recreate the original sound
    of the wonderful Beatles english.
I would pick up a girl and
    - thank you to the original sound of the wonderful Beatles english -
    I would conquer her,
I would marry her and together we will farrow so many much childs.
So we would live until the late age (her),
    while I would never die just like Highlander;
but not like Sean Connery, better like Christopher Lambert:
young through the centuries but without cut the head.
So every night I dream my unrealizable, unreasonable, unrecognizable,
    unjamestaylorable, unstatesmanlike dream come true.

    (here James Taylor sings)
Second me (the peak of the mountain).

How you call you? How many years you have?
    From where come? How stay?
    Not to be sad:
the life is a thing wonderful and I am here for make it wonderfuler.
Not see the my love for yourself?
    For force, not is visible.
Not hear the sound of the my guitar?
Is play from me; is play for you, is play for we.
    Oui, je t'aime, je t'aime - yes -, must to be the my girl;
come on the my car that I bring you at make one tour.
What think of the my car?
    Is much beautiful, second me.

p.s. i will try to refrain I'm monopolizing this thread.

November 1st and November 2nd are Roman Catholic holy days. The first is always All Saints, and the second is always All Souls, the day on which Catholics honor their dead. They would not vary from country to country.
My favorite Italian word, well words, were always,"Mangia, figlio mio, mangia!"

OK, sorry for butchering the sentence... just starting my third month of classes, and figured I'd follow Sardinian's lesson and practice a little... :)

Would I replace "di" with "dei", by any chance, since threads is plural?

BTW, this is an awesome thread. I'll be back often. :)

Ok, you seem to ask for corrections so... :)

    Yes, "dei" not "di".

    E non "nel" ma "su".

"Thread" is widely used by italians in message boards (forum pl. fora or forums).
So it's ok, no need of "*".

The most often used synonym is "discussione"
