There are a lot of names for positions in Italy, and while I can figure some of them out, some are just confusing... For starters, can anybody tell me what a "jolly" is? (ex: Hans Peter Briegel was one for Verona, http://digilander.libero.it/hellastory/Scudetto.htm)
There was a short thread on Italian soccer terminology last year. Here it is: https://www.bigsoccer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=81133 But no "jolly" on the list. This is a complete guess, but I wonder if it means of an all-purpose player ie can play anywhere on the field?
Cool. Actually, I think I remember seeing Gianluca Pessotto described as a "jolly", so it was at least an educated guess.
Yes your definition is true. I'll add that this term - jolly - is mostly referred to a defensive/midfield player, rather than a forward. That's it. We are aiming to get 4000 season ticket holders, come on guys let's buy these cheap packets!!!
