No there isn’t a second team in Parma. It’s not a big city, and AC Parma only came to prominence in the nineties.
The only other major derbies in Italy are Sampdoria-Genoa and Chievo-Hellas Verona. There are other regional rivals.

Okay, if we're going that low, then you can add in Padova and Cittadella. :)

How is that going low Sue??
Both teams have been in Serie A on different occasions ad are not exaclty unknowns.

Cittadella is a team?? I thought it was a salami's brand name.

You're right, at least Spal has been in Serie A (last time in the mid 60s). But it's not exactly Roma-Lazio, is it :)

BTW, are you sure Spal-Vicenza is a derby? According to www..rsssf.org, Spal is in "Ferrara" which is in Emilia-Romagna while Vicenza is in the Veneto.

Anyway, even though Cittadella Padova has never been in A, they were as high as Serie B just a few years ago. Of course, Padova were in Serie A not that long ago ith Alexi Lalas :)

AS Cittadella and Padova (and Spal) are currently in C1A.

Sue, my apologies. Spal is in the city of Ferrara. That is what i meant in the first place.

No, there isn't; Spal is the only professional football team in the city of Ferrara.
Spal stands for S.P.A.L. (Societa' Polisportiva Ars et Labor), pretty difficult ot translate however.
Usually "derbies" in Italy are the games between teams of the same city or coming from different but close cities (typically of the same region): Spal (Ferrara) and Vicenza belong to different region as Sue noticed, but they are only 110 km far so it could be - in an extended way - a derby too.

About Cittadella, yes they are the second team in Padova. To be honest, Cittadella is not Padova, it's about 30 km far: however, since Cittadella came to serie B, they play into Padova's stadium.

Yes, for sure Sampdoria-Genoa is one of the hottest italian derbies, while Chievo-Hellas Verona is honestly a step (maybe 2) under.
Talking about current major derbies in Serie A, we can't forget Emilia Romagna derbies: Modena, Bologna and Parma (last year Piacenza and some years ago Reggiana and Cesena too) actually play in Serie A, so this year there will be many regional derbies:
    Modena-Bologna
    Modena-Parma
    Bologna-Parma

For the atmosphere, I can say the most exciting of these games is Modena-Bologna: these are the closest cities (less than 40 km far) and an ancient rivalry begun in the middle age.
With Parma there's rivalry too, but with Bologna it's another thing.
Maybe when Hussa talked about a 2nd Parma team (Parma wears yellow and blue), he meant about Modena (cause we are yellow and blue too).

So, in a nut, please add these 3 derbies to the list :)

    Other important derbies:
    Palermo-Messina-Catania (all from Sicilia)
    Bari-Lecce
    Pisa-Livorno
    Como-Varese
    Atalanta-Brescia (dangerous one!)
    Verona-Vicenza-Venezia (all from Veneto)
    ...

Yes of course. Napoli-Salernitana (I forgot it before) is one of the main derbies in southern Italy: another derby is Napoli - Avellino and Napoli - Casertana (but Casertana actually plays in lower divisions so it will take a lot to southern people to see this derby again).

There are a bunch of Sicilian derbies. I completely forgot about Catania and Atletico Catania.

There is also Catania/Messina and Catania/Palermo.

Another "derby" is Reggina/Messina - the towns are on either side of the strait between Calabria and Sicilia.

Reggina/Cosenza was also a big rivalry for a long time although Cosenza's demise (and Reggina's success) has obviously wrecked that one.

    RE your other questions -

Juventus is the most popular club in Italy.

There are many theories as to why all the successful teams are all from the north while the southern teams struggle. To condense it into one word - money.

Oh, I think you are talking about Pro Vercelli. Despite having won more championships than most teams in Italy, they have not been in Serie A since 1934. Or even in Serie B since 1947. Currently, they play in Serie C2.

I believe it is. The "V" derbies are all pretty big as well - Venezia/Vicenza/Verona. All in Veneto. And all in Serie B.

BTW, we happened to be staying in Pistoia on our honeymoon, and Pistoiese was playing Lucchese in a Serie B game. I really wanted to go to it, but it was a night game and a Tuscan derby. Bad combo, so my husband nixed the plan. We could see the lights of the stadium from our hotel.

You can keep it forgotten :) as this derby won't take place anymore.
Atletico Catania was cut down to size over the last 10 years, especially -of course- since they were taken out from the professional leagues for financial reasons. There is only one club in Catania now and that's the one that plays in Serie B (at least this season). Atletico Catania is now a very small amateur club that plays in Promozione (5 divisions lower than Serie B). Last season they went down from Eccellenza, and I have to add proudly that in the final league matchday my club gave them a very big help to go down :D ) Now there are about only 150-200 fans that still follow them, and their hopes to go back to Serie C (at least in the next 5 years) are next to null.

No one mentioned Torino - Juventus?

Sure, Juve is much better than Torino today, but it hasn't always been like that.

OK, I missed it because Torino was spelled like Toreno and Juventus was abbreviated to Juve.

I did a ctrl-F to search for Torino and Turin, and Juventus.

No luck, so I figured that that derby wasn't mentioned.

    :)
