To be honest, and as expected, the Faroes gave Scotland a fight to the end, and probably should have secured at least a draw, but I do not think Moldova have shown the same fighting spirit and they have lost every game except for the 1-1 draw at home against the Faroese, so unfortunately I do not think the last game for Scotland vs. Denmark will be of any importance. Personally I would rather have liked to see Israel in the play-off's and I do not believe Scotland will be able to qualify when they have to play two other teams in the play-off's to reach the WC-22 (a one leg Semi-Final, with a seeded team having the home advantage, and then a one leg Final if they manage to progress).

    Austria 4-2 Israel

Israel led 1-0 and 2-1. Eran Zahavi was subbed off without scoring. Austria dominated shots (25 to 7) and shots on goal (14 to 3). Israel (+1) is above Austria (-1) for third on goal differential with both teams having 13 points. Israel ends hosting fifth place Faroe Islands, and Austria ends hosting last place Moldova. Here is how big a difference Israel has had in the first five games and last five games:

World Cup 2022: 10 points in the first five, 6 points in the last five assuming Israel beats Faroe Islands
World Cup 2018: 9 points in the first five (all in the first four), 3 points in the last five
World Cup 2014: 8 points in the first five, 6 points in the last five
World Cup 2010: 9 points in the first five, 7 points in the last five
2010 through 2022 combined: 36 points in the first half, 22 in the second half assuming Israel beats Faroe Islands
World Cup 2006: 9 points in the first five, 9 points in the flast five (first place France, second place Switzerland, third place Israel, and fourth place Republic of Ireland played 11 of 12 draws against each other with France winning at Republic of Ireland; all four of them won all four games against Cyprus and Faroe Islands)
For World Cup 2002, Israel was in a group of five.

    Israel 3-2 Faroe Islands

Israel blew a 2-0 lead and scored the winner in the 75th. Israel had better statistics, but I think they should have done better hosting Faroe Islands. Austria won 4-1 hosting Moldova. Austria's last goal was in the 81st, and luckily they didn't score again, which kept Israel above Austria on goals scored. Scotland won 2-0 hosting Denmark. Denmark went 8 games without allowing a goal, allowed 1 while beating Faroe Islands last week, and Scotland improved to the point where they were closer to Denmark (4 points behind) than to Israel (7 points ahead). The standings finished (records are W-D-L):

    Denmark: 9-0-1, 27 points, 30 goals scored, 3 goals allowed, +27
    Scotland: 7-2-1, 23 points, 17 goals scored, 7 goals allowed, +10
    Israel: 5-1-4, 16 points, 23 goals scored, 21 goals allowed, +2
    Austria: 5-1-4, 16 points, 21 goals scored, 19 goals allowed, +2
    Faroe Islands: 1-1-8, 4 points, 7 goals scored, 23 goals allowed, -16
    Moldova: 0-1-9, 1 point, 5 goals scored, 30 goals allowed, -25

Israel is the only team of 55 in UEFA to score and allow at least 2.1 goals per game. The only team with more combined goals scored and allowed is San Marino, and Gibraltar will probably surpass 44 tomorrow because they have 43. If you multiply the goals by 1.25 for groups of five that play eight games to compare them to groups of six that play ten games, none of those teams would have as many combined goals scored and allowed as Israel. There were 103 goals, which was 1.72 per team per game.

Finishing third is better than Israel's previous three qualifying groups, which were fifth for Euro 2020, fourth for World Cup 2018, and fourth for Euro 2016. Israel scored 10 and allowed 15 in ten World Cup 2018 qualifiers, so they scored and allowed a lot more this time.
