    A New President!

Welcome to Chicago Fire Ms. Glassman Chrein! She seems to have quite a bit of sports business experience, but not much specific to soccer.

Always hopeful for a new hiring, but this thread was already a DAY late.

Chicago Fire FC Names Ishwara Glassman Chrein President

    https://www.chicagofirefc.com/post/...re-fc-names-ishwara-glassman-chrein-president

"I am so thrilled to be joining the Fire at such an important inflection point in the Club’s history,” said Glassman Chrein.
I am not sure that "inflection" is a synonym for "nadir."

Well, unlike the Nelson Rodriguez hiring, "She will be relocating to Chicago with her husband, two kids, and one enormous golden retriever."
So, that is a step in the right direction!

From the Chicago Sun Times article:

"The hire also moves the Fire further away from the Hauptman era. The leaders of both the Fire’s soccer and business sides are now Mansueto’s picks, and their tasks are to rebuild their respective parts of the franchise."

"On Thursday, the team announced that Ishwara Glassman Chrein was named club president to replace predecessor Nelson Rodriguez."
Seriously, can anyone replace Nelson 'Shady' Rodriguez in our hearts and minds?!?

Technically, this is a turning point. Or at least, any movement upwards would be a turning point since even if things get worse the trend has been down anyway.

She's an interesting hire, I don't really know what her specific role will be when it comes to the fans' connection to the FO, but I hope that she comes out to tailgates (when they're allowed) so we can all meet her.

Uninspiring but at least it’s only the business side. Perhaps she should be the business COO while the presidency should be handled by a former player and someone who can bridge business and technical. That means you can’t just hire the best ex-player but you have to get the right ex-player.

    Like I said, uninspiring.

Well, when hitting nadir, it is a turning point. Nowhere to go but up.

What role does the President fill with the Fire? While it’s the same title, is it the same role as Nelson held?
She seems totally competent and committed, two things we couldn’t say about her predecessor, so more power to her!

She is going to be head of the business side she won't have anything to do with the soccer side.

A crap article about the new president.

Completely devoid of substance, but the author of the puff piece thought it was vital to tell us the kitchen at Fire HQ has snacks.

Her "three goals" leaves much to desired.
    1. Retain good people. (hence the snacks, according to the author)
    2. New shirt sponsor. (Motorola is not reupping)
    3. More people at Soldier Field. (Ya think?)

Gee, that is some level of ambition.

Again, they bring up that she was a Padres fan and knows nothing about soccer.

    Her response to disgruntled fans?
    "I want to win, too."

I really, really want to positive and optimistic about the direction of this team, but they make it so friggin' difficult.

I started reading that and had to stop. Thanks for the summary. As long as she can get rid of the last of the Hauptman/Nelson hired FO, she will have done a great service to the club.

Total crap article devoid of anything meaningful. So she wants to target Mexicans, Polish AND suburban soccer Moms?! Wow, who could’ve come up with such a brilliant idea as trying to appeal to multiple segments?!

Changing from “Soccer Club” to “Football Club” should at least get all the Mexican and Polish people. We’re two thirds of the way there!

I work in the same building as the team’s new headquarters (we have snacks and beer too!), and while I did see NRod around occasionally pre-pandemic, I have yet to see the new President once since the announcement was made. I can only think of two possibilities here:

    1. Obviously this new team President is a plant, Hauptman is still running the team from the shadows.
    2. Her schedule differs from mine in ways that make so that we’re not in the common areas of the building at the same time.

Obviously only the first one is realistic here- this career deathwatch is over before it ever started.

To be fair, @Old Man! said she was "competent" and "committed" not "qualified" for the position.

She has to work her way up to running franchises into the ground! ;)

Agree with the rest of your points, of course.

  22. Mansueto made a very public point of it was her job to improve attendance. I'd say that, whether or not the team is still crap on the field, this is job #1 for her.

Well if I show up with my son and crew on the 26th (28th? Whatever) she can take credit for it even though we've been planning it for a while now.

    Appreciated!

(Unless she works as a Database Administrator or Software Quality Assurance Analyst, in which case- let her know I've been trying to fill those positions for a few weeks know AND she'll get to work in the same building as the Fire!)
