England midfielder Curtis Jones, 25, is preparing to leave Liverpool this summer, with Aston Villa ready to step up their interest. (Teamtalk)

    .... God, please, no!

Nothing about coaching can ever explain the dropoff in form for two of our most influential players last season - Mo and Mac.

In almost every game this season Mo has had difficulty doing anything at speed - dribbling, simple passes, shots.

Mac from day one this season has looked like he's carrying a small injury that impedes his movement.

Both of them are driven players - real warriors - so it's not like they've tuned out or anything.

Why not - everyone blames Slot for everything right now.

But coaching can explain starting these two every single game despite their drop off in form when, at the time, we had options available.

I agree with that ... the only explanation is he has waited for them to snap into form - not unusual, most coaches would do the same. But his stubbornness got out of hand.

I feel like both are kind of similar to Grav.
I really don't like the balance in our midfield given both Dom and Wirtz are theoretically best suited to play at the tip of a 3. And Dom and Grav can't play effectively as a double pivot.

Agree. Wrong profile given the players in the squad already. We desperately need an athletic DM.

This week I saw the best team in England (Man City) and the best team in Europe (Bayern) play a 4-2-3-1 with a true number 10 (Cherki and Gnabry). It shows that football is not dead and that system works when done right.

Liverpool need to get it right with Wirtz in that position. What those other teams have that we don’t, is pace and quality on the wings. The job of the transfer committee this summer is simple….get pace and quality on the wings.

Also we paid 130 million for Isak to our Haaland/Kane. By next season the manager needs to be getting that kind of level out of him.

"We are close to an agreement. I have a special relationship not only with the fans, but with every single person who works at the club. This club means so much to me.”

Ibrahima Konate reveals he's set to sign a new long-term contract at Liverpool.

    Yes!! great news.

Simply put - we kind of need it despite his very up and down season. We can't also be looking for another high priced CB in the market with all the holes to plug.

More simply put - he's a top-notch CB we're very lucky to have.

The following quotes are very interesting:
“It was a tough year because many things happened and I think if everyone knew exactly what happened to me, they could understand many things, which kind of sacrifices I’ve done for this club.

“I think it is great and one day I will take the time to think about it. Right now I am focused on the end of the season and making sure we are qualified for the Champions League next season, and after we take the time to talk about this season because it’s going to be a big part of my story.

“It’s sad in one part, but it’s very nice for my story when I explain that to my future kids and those people who support this club as well.”

“Not only with the fans, especially with the people who work at the club, every single person who works there.

“I take it in my heart like my family. It’s such an amazing club and amazing family. That’s why we have to give our all on the pitch — for them, for the fans, for everyone in the city. This club means so much to me.”

Yep. If Konate stays and we can pick up someone like Senesi on a free we should be okay at cb for next year. Virg,Konate,Senesi?, Leoni and Jacquet. And that would allow us to use funds elsewhere for strengthening the squad.

With Ibou likely back in the fold:

    1. 2 very speedy wingers
    2. DM (or deep lying playmaker)
    3. Right back (?) - basically because we can't rely on Conor or Frimpy (and Frimpy isn't really an RB).
    4. Keeper (?) - I'd anticipate next season being Ali's last (and a possible bombshell this summer could be the case too)

Rio gets real game time next year, Kostas is back as backup LB, Leoni is back, Conor is back - for whatever it's worth (he's great when available),

    lastly KEEP CURTIS!!

I think for the wing positions, we need a top-notch (as close as possible) Mo replacement, plus a bench option.

I expect Rio next year will start to get major minutes.

I don't think there is such an animal, Sam. Mo is unique , a winger who is a prolific scorer.

I think we're going to switch our scoring focus towards Isak and Ekiitike and look for fast tricky wingers who can service those two in the middle but hopefully still getting some production from the wings too.

If we are in direct competition with PSG we may have a hard time landing him...

PSG already have Barcola as a 4th forward struggling for minutes. Liverpool have a giant hole on both wings where he could walk right into the team. Plus he’s spoken about how his dad loves Liverpool.

It makes quite a bit of sense if MacAllister is not 1st choice 11.
Gravenberch and sometimes Sboz take over his spot.... and the DM plays deeper.
No need to buy a keeper until Ali is leaving. (And bringing back Kelleher at that point might also make sense.)

He's been amazing for us. The injuries the past few seasons make it a good time for him to move on though in my opinion.

I'd rather he stayed one more year (jn the hope that it can be relatively injury free), but we'll see....

Allison is amazing but I have never seen a gk as injury prone as him. We have to get his replacement right as it's unlikely we will get anyone t Allison prime level but we could get great and more available GK

I'm still puzzled why we sold Kelleher.
