For certain we'll have Virg,Leoni and Jacquet. Ibou is a ? and Joe (too easily injured) I expect to go. I feel we may well go three at the back next season and will probably need 5 cb's so with Virg , Leoni , Jacquet and Ibou we still need one. If Ibou goes then 2. I prefer experienced cb's too since Leoni and Jacquet are young. Senessi available on a free works as does Oscar Mingueza also available on a free.Perhaps both.
It's quite possible - even this season with a fit Isak and Bradley and MacAllister and Salah at last year's levels this might have been a much better season.
Anyone think that for the next game (and maybe the next until Isak is fitter) Gakpo Salah (centre) Dominic ...........Wirtz .... Grav mac/Jones Robbo Virg Konate Frimpong ...............Mama Isak on at 55-60 Rio at 65-70
They were, and it was nice, but it was more a function (i think) of a weird spin than a Steven Gerrard or Clarence Seedorf special. There was a lot of hype about Mellor (like with Rooney the next year) but to me, at the time, he didn't seem like top level. With Rooney - you could see it clearly Was that Manniger he scored on? - poor guy died this week in a train-car crash
hey - the best coaches make serious errors ..... Johann Cruyff probably wouldn't leave out Michael Laudrup for the CL Final against MIlan if he could revisit the choice.....
Liverpool have joined Manchester United in the race to sign England midfielder Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace, who want at least £80m for the 22-year-old. (Talksport)
Just came across this ... Tottenham have an agreement in principle to sign Argentine defender Marcos Senesi in the summer when the 28-year-old is expected to leave Bournemouth at the end of his contract. However, the deal depends on relegation-battling Spurs staying in the Premier League. (Talksport)
Something I’ve been banging on about all season. You’re not signing Kerkez and Frimpong as your primary FBs and expecting to play 4 at the back.
All sounds quite plausible, but there remains for me the evidence of just seemingly mediocre coaching - poor fitness levels, not using the full squad and risking burn-out and injuries, dogmatic adherence to playing tactics that have been found out and effectively countered, an uneven record of player engagement and commitment. Great to be a change agent but what about the basics?
Agreed and also I'm not sure we have the funds to pay that kind of money on either of those two when we're gonna go big on a winger or two who generally don't come cheap. The Joao Gomes of Wolves link interests me. I think he would come in for less than either English lad. But who knows? Any of them would help us.
I don’t think I’ve paid enough attention to either of them to know if they are worth it. The Wharton links seem real. Could he be the right man for our midfield? The more Liverpool thing to do would be to let everyone think they are after Wharton while they sign their real target in the background. I would have said that Arsenal were paying way too much for Declan Rice, but he was worth it. Is Wharton the next Rice?
I’m still intrigued by Camavinga. His stock will never be lower than after getting sent off against Bayern. Despite being around forever, he’s only 23. He’s a super talent who has played in countless big games for club and country. He’s way out of favor at Madrid, and I never understood why.
I just hope that whoever we bring in they play with fire in their hearts. We have a lot of talented players , very skilled but I want some to see more tenacity , fight and willingness to get stuck in if needs be.
I'd have said the same before the VvD purchase also, especially since he was coming off a knee injury. But he completely revolutionized our backline. Really it is a bit of a hit or miss, but sometimes an expensive player is worth the price (same went for Alisson). We are just a bit gun-shy because of what has gone on with this season's transfers. That said, Ekitike was a big layout, and he absolutely paid off (until his Achille's injury). Isak hasn't yet (and may never), but frankly Jury's out on that until next season. Wirtz was always a different story. He's a creative... history has ample evidence that his kind of player takes time to integrate, but then is often a long-term nucleus that you build a team around. Luka Modric at RM is the best example, but Rodri and Bernardo Silva at ManCs also took time to integrate. Even Fabinho and Leiva here at LFC were integrated into the side slowly before they really took off and became regular starters. What Slot had done differently is essentially play Wirtz all the time, so he's been trying to adapt on the fly. I'm not convinced Slot it the manager to actually bring out the best in new signings - we clearly are seeing a drop off in initial success rate. I partially blame his tendency to play a team based 1) how Dutch they are, and 2) how much their apparent transfer fee amounts to. That doesn't frankly seem a rational way to decide these things, but I honestly haven't figured out what else he's using to make these decisions... It clearly isn't how they are performing during the games.
I've felt he selects players who are nailed-on starters - or at least regular selections - for their national team, regardless of form. Explains everyone except Endo, but he's not European or SA so maybe doesn't count.
How Slot chooses players, I can't say, but what I can say is he hasn't been able to get anything out of players who performed at a high level last year. Kerkez, wirtz Frimpong, Isak all were top players last year. Even with the injuries we usually lined up against teams who's lineup was inferior to ours and we still lost. All this means to me is our coach is not up to the task
That’s my starting point, too. We can’t write anybody off at all, there is scant evidence that this or that player can’t make it; we haven’t seen their being coached, conditioned or played properly.
This is one of the many reasons why I don't like Slot. I haven't seen him do a single thing this season to justify keeping his job. I expect next season we will be worse under his management
