Hadn’t we already agreed a move and then Glasner threw a hissy one, Parish refused to come out of the shower and the deal fell through.
£5m extra, that is meeting Palace’s initial valuation or maybe £1-2m shy, in June would have seen the deal done with enough time to sign for them to sign a replacement and would have shut Glasner tfu. Guehi had agreed personal terms which means he would have been within our pay structure and not at £300k per. But, £5m saved, yeah, good business that.
as explained above, it wasn't about money. they purely reneged on the agreement because Parish threw a tantrum. he's now repaid their trust in him by saying he's not gonna renew his contract.
Liverpool and Ibrahima Konate remain some way apart over a new contract. The France international, 26, is in his fifth season at Anfield and believes he should be one of the best-paid defenders in the Premier League. (Teamtalk) And Liverpool could move to replace Konate with Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven, with Real Madrid also paying attention to the 24-year-old Netherlands defender's future. (Teamtalk)
Ibou should not be one of the league's highest paid defenders based on this season. He and his agent must be daft to think that.
Konate would likely have been a very highly paid CB for LFC if he’d agreed to a deal last year. After this year’s performances, he’ll likely be a decently well paid CB for someone other than LFC. But he won’t be as well paid as he thinks he should be. Would be interesting to know who else his agent has on their client list. The reason I say that is that in the know folks were saying that Isaak was going to push as hard as he did for a switch to LFC last summer because his agent didn’t have any other high profile clients and this was likely Isaak’s big payday contract. Hence, both agent and player were willing to push to the extreme to get the best deal they could. Is something similar going on with Konate? Would be interesting to know…
At the time the contract re-neg started, he could have realistically claimed that but no, not now. IIRC a few weeks back RM said they were dropping their interest in signing him. As always - who TF knows.
After missing out on Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, Liverpool have switched their focus to Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni. Teamtalk are reporting that Arne Slot now wants Bastoni as an alternative at centre-back and the Italian international would be open to leaving the San Siro. Liverpool were reportedly plotting an £87m move towards the back end of the year. There are also reports that Borussia Dortmund’s Nico Schlotterbeck is being considered, while in a more audacious move, the Reds are said to hold a legitimate interest in Tottenham Hotspur star Micky van de Ven, with Real Madrid also thought to be keen.
Madrid are usually willing to slop around big paydays - and with the Spanish league probably being easier to defend in, his value might not have dropped for them? Also - they can no longer sniff about Guehi....
WTF 🚨 EXCL: Tottenham Hotspur working on deal to sign Andy Robertson from Liverpool. #THFC brought forward plan to vie for 31yo #LFC left-back as free agent this summer; not done but talks between all parties advancing in bid to reach agreement @TheAthleticFC https://t.co/v1Wocekavz— David Ornstein (@David_Ornstein) January 23, 2026
So Tsmikas will probably be recalled from his loan. But why does a club legend, who is still vice captain and one of the biggest voices in the dressing room, want to abruptly leave midseason while we just secured our place in the last 16 of the Champions League, only to join the shit show that is Tottenham Hotspur? He deserves a proper goodbye. This doesn’t feel right.
Kerkez has found his form and made the lb position his own. Robbo is not playing much and its a world cup year. I'm sure he doesn't see his career over quite yet and wants to play.
A bit surprising to me given his interview last week. But I guess he wants to be in optimal shape for the WC.
maybe Spurs could go for TAA too re-ignite their partnership? https://www.si.com/onsi/soccer/real...r-arnold-reportedly-told-to-leave-real-madrid
that's my guess, something along those lines. Spurs are talking ludicrous $$ for VdV so maybe Robbo would go for the move to help himself and us at the same time. I'd be happy to see Tsimi come back tbh.
All of this misses one glaring point that Insofar as failure goes this year, Xabi Alonso has been more of a coaching failure than Slot has, so why are we any nearer 100 % "sure" about him?? And furthermore, one could conceivably argue that Alonso has been working all year with a stronger squad than Slot in a weaker league
