Is what the announcers didn't say more important than what they did?

While watching the Poland/USMNT game tonight, I distinctly noticed a lack of explanation of offsides, what a club team is and, basically, any and all explanation of how soccer works.

Considering this wasn't an MLS game where I would expect everyone who watches the game to know what's going on, does this game mark a shift in the media's perception of the American fan's knowledge of the game of soccer?

Or am I reading too much into this? :D

I may be wrong, but I don't remember many explanations in the recent past for USMT games.

They didnt demonstate much knowledge of the Polish players backgrounds but I wasnt expecting much from these two guys.

When I said they were pretty good, I meant they weren't detracting from the game. Rob knows the game can speak for itself.

Except that there was no play-by-play. Combine that with the camera being so far back, you couldn't tell who had the ball.

It's called a plural form - one offside, two offsides, three offsides, ...

Particularly apparent when Rob, in the second half, let us know that it was the third cap on the US National Team for the Polish player who was being substituted into the game.

Heh I chuckled at that too. He said US mens national team and I did a double take. Clearly just so used to saying US, but it was humorous.
