I think it's neat that the Governor, in trying to reduce / eliminate tribal sovereignty has essentially lost state sovereignty over 60% of the state by losing in court, all the way to SCOTUS, like 740 times

Latest on Vancouver from Garber. As for his comment about Montreal, naively over optimistic about his league being able to compete with the Habs while losing key spring and summer dates.

If it came to relocation, Saputo would most likely sell the franchise

This weekend, I made several calls to numerous contacts and several others who were passed along to me. This week will be a very, very pivotal week for the future of CF Montréal. The National Assembly will be on summer break starting Friday, until mid-September. Time is of the essence for the team. According to my sources, it must make its intentions known to the @MLSfor the winter schedule by the end of this summer. There are only 2 options: the Olympic Stadium or a relocation. According to my information, 2 cities in the southern United States are regularly inquiring with the commissioner's office about the situation at the Olympic Stadium. If it comes to that, the@MLS will go all in. If the government waits until fall to make its intentions known, it could be too late. Let's remember that the team already needs to find a place to play in the playoffs this fall, same for the mini-winter season in 2027. The commissioner is ready to make concessions to accommodate Montréal temporarily in terms of the schedule (fall 2027-winter 2028), but only if the work moves forward at the stadium. From what I understand, even if the full budget isn't disbursed now, there could be a way to salvage the situation by doing the most urgent work. In hopes of securing the rest of the funding later. I couldn't stress enough that we're at the eleventh hour on this file. The @MLS hopes for a positive resolution, but is also prepared for the darkest scenario. Hoping that solutions can be found right now.

Isn't money from the government what all or most sports owners want?

I mean usually, most owners want the city governemnt or state to help fund their stadiums.

I don't think there are many owners who don't ask for their help.

Don Garber channeling his inner "Gary Bettman". Takes a special kind of d*** to come to Vancouver and talk about how Vegas has the pieces unless they are given everything they want. Consider the timing.

In these parts, we've endured Bettman because it is the NHL but Garber should avoid overplaying his hand here

Well, turn some of the fans who were in Vancouver Thursday into MLS fans, how hard could it be?

    Thx,

    Jay!

Tweets are great for painting a doom and gloom headline.........

    From the article:

A lot of work has been done behind the scenes in recent weeks in terms of keeping the club in the city and when Garber took the opportunity to speak with media in Seattle on Friday morning ahead of the US’ game with Australia, the subject of the Whitecaps was at the forefront of discussion.

“I was up there last night, came here after the game,” Garber said of being in Vancouver for Canada’s World Cup game against Qatar. ” I spent a couple of minutes with the Premier, a couple of minutes with the Prime Minister, spent a couple of minutes with the PavCo folk who are controlling that stadium, and we are committed to keeping the team there if we have a viable stadium project, which we don’t have now.

Garber noted that while the politicians are all saying the right things, he hopes that they’re not just platitudes, stressing that the league has been spending a lot of time in Vancouver to make sure the necessary deals get done and the club stays in the city.

“I have a full time person from the league office up there,” Garber revealed. “We’re doing our job. We’ve got Victor Montagliani, a Vancouver native that’s got a lot of influence in the city, sitting next to the Prime Minister last night helping us out. We want to keep the team there, but we can’t do that unless the political influencers and their entities put together something that will allow Vancouver to be not bottom of the list.

I suspect after Vancouver Garber will turn his attention to Montreal.

    From the same article:

“I spent a couple of days in Montreal and the city there and their version of PavCo is working very closely with us and our Montreal ownership to try and have us operate what would be a spectacular renovation of the Olympic Stadium. We want to be the ones that control our destiny like every sports team does. It’s taking longer than we’d like but I was really impressed by the fan turnout to that [Canada] game and I’d love to find a solution.”

If and when things work out I assume Vegas is #31 and Sac #32.

Sac doesn't seem to be making any noises wrt USL Premier.

Indy has a project called "Indy 2050" so maybe MLS is in their longer-term plans.

How would he be over playing his hand when all he is doing is being honest? They would like to keep the team there but they have a fantastic offer that will either result in relocation or a possible expansion team. He speaks of what happened in Columbus that ended in a new stadium and ownership. That would be a positive outcome for Vancouver if the same thing happened.

I would also mention a dark horse candidate in Mesa Arizona with plans for an indoor stadium of 25K and a woman as an owner trying to get an NASL team and possibly an MLS team. They want to have the stadium open by 2028. Phoenix is a big market and with the change of season another indoor stadium wouldn't hurt.
