maybe if there were USA games of which to highlight...but I can't see some show in January STILL talking about that damn El Salvador game from November.

but you would be free to watch it to your heart's content.

I think a quick look at ESPN's calendar should reveal a lot of room for a half-hour US
soccer show each week, at least during most of the MLS season, when American football and basketball aren't competing for time.

One of the greatest things about WC 2002 was World Cup Tonight, even with silly things like Wynalda's bickering with Chignalia and how obviously out of place Caliguri was in a TV studio.

That same format could be used for "MLS This Week," recapping all MLS games. They could also feature updates on US Men, Women and Youth sides and a segment on US nationals in some other leagues. If ratings are OK, the show could be maintained in the MLS offseason as a World Soccer This Week, covering the EPL, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A, and all that other stuff, again with a focus on US nationals.

As swell as this idea is, many will say that ratings won't support it. [But honestly, does the World's Dumbest Man competition draw more fans? "Let's see which of these morons can find the least efficient way to move a pile of rocks!"] I suppose a key concern might be whether subscriptions to the Shootout Package would drop off. Also, with only 10 cities having MLS teams, maybe there's not enought demand for a national show. A solution could be a show that could be picked up by the local Fox Sports affiliates.

    Hey!

You can't put a meaningful soccer show on ESPN dammit, you'll ruin my schedule of exciting shows like Strongman, and fly fishing, and dudes in bikinis, and bowling, and senior golf, and dudes in bikinis, and saltwater fishing, and dogs jumping off piers, and women that look like dudes in bikinis.......

    IT JUST WOULDN"T BE FAIR!!!!!!!!!!

The Madison Square Garden Network (I think it's called) had a fairly good weekly show on during soccer season that was on one of my Fox regional sports networks. I think it's called "Metro Soccer Report".
I guess our best hope, for now, is for more shows like that to happen on a regional basis.
Perhaps MLS will produce a show in in 2-3 years for all the markets. Just something I expect.

I hear that USSF was paying for airtime to broadcast some soccer games, MLS/USSF could parthner to produce a monthly HIGHLIGHT PROGRAM on a regular schedule....How MLS expect to bring up attendance if people do not know there is soccer here in USA....??

    Been there, done that...???

Didn't ESPN2 have a show (MLS 2 Night? or something like that) that was on during the 2000 (or 2001) season?

I seem to remember that the show didn't start until like June (after the NHL playoffs) and the MLS season was half over. Rob Stone was the host if I recall.

I think they ended up relegating the show to like Monday nights at 11:30pm or something.

    Anybody else recall?

Oh yes, I remember the show well. It got canned for "lack of interest" and that is why I stated I expect it will be another 2-3 years before a similar show will return on a national basis.

I can't even get highlight of EPL on skysports. They don't show highlights for some reason. That's totally gay.
