Saddam's Dead In my opinion, Saddam's dead. The guy in the video was a double. The beret seemed too tight on his head, he seemed too paunchy, too old and, not to mention the glasses and notebook which others have noted. What do you think?
I'll say this. No way in the world that Saddam's broadcast was live. He wouldn't be stupid enough to do that.
Currently Iraq has a better high-speed communication system than some neighborhoods in Silicon Valley. He could have been anywhere, and just transmit the signal to the station by land lines.
Even if it wasn't our favorite 80's WMD receiver, what would that prove? He has doubles for a reason.
it looks like we're going to run into the same thing that happened in the early days of the Afghanistan campaign-- the media is going to focus on the "did we kill/catch him" question (without any proof that makes for a real argument) while ignoring more important and interesting stories
I'm not sure if he's dead (hope so), but that video was not him. It doesn't even look like the same guy.
You really are a fucking idiot. I'm going to assume that you're not serious. But in case you are, have you ever heard of Monty Python and the Holy Grail? The line "I'm not quite dead yet." Did you happen to notice the when I wrote "see my avatar and my title?" Moron. I relish the idea of Saddam's death. I wish the US would've let the inspectors really find the goods on the Iraqis, because I think eventually, given time, they would have, and then there'd be no question about whether or not this war was justified. As it stands right now, we're attacking based on humor, innuendo, half-truths and some outright lies.
Saddam has been able to deceive us for 12 years. I don't see how we would suddenly be able to reverse the tide there and suddenly find the "goods" on him.
I'm thinking Saddam is dead. I'm also thinking the US knows it already, given their strategy today. Instead of the "shock and awe" attack that everyone is talking about, the US is merely moving forward on the ground towards Baghdad. Reports are that senior Republican Guard leaders are negotiating surrender, probably with the knowledge that Hussein is dead. This could be a rather bloodless war, with the march into Baghdad a coronation rather than a confrontation.
mike, that avator is freaking me out. looks like a fat version of saddam... oh wait, it is suppose to be saddam. i just do not believe it...
