I've just heard her new single a couple times in the last few days, and it's clear as day that she stomps the living ************ out of 9/10ths of what passes for 'pop music' at the moment. Once again she's got the song of the summer - only this time she released it with a week to go in the season.

There are other acts of all kinds out there making good music right now - but I can't think of anyone who can compete with Missy in terms of being credibly original, releasing ridiculously catchy singles and killing on the charts. Anyone?

I don't think she's the best in either category.

That's kind of what I meant to say - just didn't word it right (it was 3 am in the morning, of course).

I'm sure there are 'better' hip-hop artists out there; the guys in the BS Hip-Hop thread are always talking about these acts I've never heard of, but are apparently great.

I'm equally sure there are other artists in other genres doing things that might be called more 'innovative', one way or another.

The difference is, those artists typically aren't selling millions upon millions of records and getting tons of airplay, while retaining a few shreds of credibility - never mind doing it time and time again. That's why for me, she's the class of pop music right now.

If I have to listen to pop radio, better Missy than, say, NSync or any of the other multi-platinum artists.

If that's what you're saying, then yes, you are right.

She seems to be a smart woman, too, and have her business sh!t in line. That's been a problem in hip-hop since the first artists signed to labels.

That being said, she's not my first/second/30th choice to listen to. :)

But, Eric B and Rakim? No way in hell. Rakim is in the top two lyricists of all time in hip-hop (him or KRS, take your choice). Missy is good for what she is.

Neptunes make hits for everybody these days.

Pharrell is all over MTV and other music channels, either in the video or behind the scenes.

NERD is pretty good, I'm more of a fan when they're in the booth working with some artistses [sic].

Missy is similar, while her stuff is less angrier (lack of a better term). It's very different and I think it's merely a reflection on her outlook on the hiphip scene.

I do have to admit that Diddy's latest stuff has me back on the bandwagon. Hated that period in whcih he covered almost everything in the mainstream catalog to make new songs.

Do you mean metal or that Staind/Korn/Limp Bizkit/Drowning Pool/Saliva bullsh1t?

    Oh my god
    I am sad
    I should kill myself
    Because I am sad
    Crawling in my skin
These wounds they will not heal
    Beating me down
    Stop it
    I was raped
    As a child
    I am sad
    I am dead!!~!!@

See there, a hit song. And as much as I don't like rap, it doesn't make someone a *************** for listening to it.

    n.e.r.d. sucks
    especially live
when their hour long set lasts 15 minutes before they run out of material and are told they have 40 more minutes to play it's just sad. especially when they play rockstar TWICE

Anyways, what's the new single so I can download it?

I agree with Michael, Missy is the best thing on pop radio. She's been making some good shite for a while now.

The Neptunes are responsible for the new No Doubt cd and for Britney's new hit "boys". Now what do you guys think of them??

I know, which is why I asked if he was into those bands. The metal poseurs tend to like those bands.

    Hey, I even said I don't like rap. =D

I made the Eric B & Rakim/Timbaland & Missy comparison, not because I think they're at the same level, but because of how well they work together.
Eric B's wall of sound perfectly complemented Rakim's flow, just as Timbo's space age beats are perfect for Missy's rhymes. Missy brings out the best in Timbo and vice versa.

Timbaland and Neptunes make pop radio somewhat tolerable (though I really can't get in to n.e.r.d.). Hell, I found myself nodding to that Justin Timberlake song.

Speaking of quality artists in pop, it's good to see Slum Village and Blackalicious getting airplay on BET. And the Roots should be coming out with new material before the end of the year. It's too bad Black Eyed Peas went down the tube though.

I take you've never heard of Clipse.

They produced the entirety of Lord Willin'. Sure there are some songs on it that reek, but there are other where you're feelin it.

SportBoy321, I hope you have nothing but daughters and they date guys who listen to nothing but rap. I'd love to video tape the look on your face...
