    Give COLIN CLARKE THE BOOT????
IMO I would give Clarke 2 more matches to "straight'n up" the Burn but if that weren't to happen I'd give him the Boot. When Clarke was hired I expected a more offensive Dallas Burn, which we saw for the first 3 games, then the Burn went from being an offensive type team to a sloppy team with LOTS of Flaws.
    I hate to admit it!

Clarke's replacement: For me, it's plain and simple, Someone who has a very defensive Stron style of Soccer.....

Lets not get carried away just yet, I still see us getting into the playoffs and what we do in the 2nd half of the season will determine whether Clarke is worthy of not only coaching the Burn but also coaching it's metamorphis, FC Dallas.

These kind of posts are useless unless you have suggestions for a replacement.

Sounds good to me. Hell, they're wanting to completely change our team next year -- a new coach would be the one thing I don't mind. And I'd be up for giving it to Oscar...it would even appeal to those latino fans everyone keeps trying o-so-hard to get back.

Clarke will be forced to make some decisions now, with JK out and Pareja injured according to Sham and Dir last night.

If he doesn't play Nunez on Wed more than 10 minutes, then I will start losing confidence in his abilities to manage the team from an on-field selection perspective. Its time for him to play and now the situation will almost surely dictate him playing.

I also have not been impressed with the Talley/Valakari pairing in the midfield. One holding non-creative defensive midfielder in the center is enough for me. Valakari has proven he can do that job by himself. He doesn't need Talley helping him.

I still cannot see what he was thinking putting Quill in last night. Sure, it was against his old team, but haven't we seen this act twice already this year.

My suggestions are to leave Quill at the OTHER end of the bench. Bring Davis back to the middle and put Nunez on the left wing. (against SJ this will be hard to do with player availability). Sub in Pareja at 60/70 (again, availability) for either Davis/Nunez/O'Brien (whoever seems off that night and adjust accordingly). And PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE.... sit Gbandi and bring in Reyes or Behncke to fill out the back line.

BTW: My choices would be: Hugo Sanchez, Boraj Milutinovik, or Mario Carillo...I have more on my mind but I'd narrow it down to these guys....

Is that all the time a guy gets to prove he can coach? Half a season?

How about some of our players shooting the abll and maybe scoring more than one goal a game. It ain't Colin Clarke kicking field goals out there - its Nhlecko.

Ok, let's start with Bora. He coached the Metrostars one season ... to the worst record in just about MLS history. Besides, he's trying to get Honduras in the world cup at the moment, he has bigger fish to fry.

Hugo just won the championship in Mexico. His goal is to coach 1. Real Madrid or 2. the Mexican National team. He won't leave Pumas until either one of those is realized. Reports say he turned down a coaching gig in the Spanish first division. Chance the Burn gets Hugo: One in a million.

    Who is Mario Carillo?

    Oh Please!

This panic amongst the fanatics after a loss to the hottest team in current MLS play is unexpected.

Do I always agree with CC's choices and decisions? NO - but I don't have the benefit of his experience as a player (World Cup goal scorer at that), a successful coach at other pro levels, and an understanding of the game.

The players need to step up - stay focused for the ENTIRE game (not just a portion of it). The MLS Disciplinary Committee needs to closely review this game (as I am certain the letter from GE will make abundantly clear).

Mario Carillo- When he coached America, America went undefeated and set a new Record in the Mexican League for most points accumulated during a short tournament. Carillo was fired after failing to Qualify America into the Playoffs. Carillo was "tought" by Marcelo Lippi, Carlos Bianchi, and Sir Alex. The Worst from Carillo came when he Coached Puebla F.C, Carillo got the "hot potato" tossed at him after Puebla fired their old Coach before hiring Carillo. Carillo only Coached Puebla for the last 2 weeks of the Clausura 2003 tourny.

Boraj recently left Honduras because the Honduras Soccer Federation rejected Boraj's idea of starting their Tournament after World Cup Qualifiers were over.

Now onto another thing, chaz I'm not in "Panic" because of our situation right now. We could either do 1 or 2 things. We can either release Clarke and some Players who quite frankly "don't feel" the Burn Colors. Or 2, We could remain like this for the rest of the Season and go Downhill....

why don't we trade coaches?...that way the irrationals on both fan bases will be satisfied..

...look, these losses should, and never will be acceptable...however, you don't declare yourself league champion after a blowout win, and you don't blow up the season after a big loss...it's very key to see how the team responds in the next game, but nonetheless, this is MLS...first place can conceivably change hands week after week, and only one team misses the playoffs...are the other 4 teams in your conference in that much more of an enviable situation than yours (if at all), from a fan's point of view?...i'm having to look at my own team like that after yesterday's embarassment, but this is far from 'fire the coach' time..

And even though this may piss off some of my fellow Burn fans...Mr Kreis has been know to have more than his fair share of field goals.

I agree it's a bit too premature for talk of a new coach, CC should be given at least a full season to show what he can do. As many other posters have noted, the standings in this league can (and do) change from week to week. We've actually played 13 games, which is less than most have played (1 has played 12, 4 have played 13, 1 has played 14, 4 have played 15).

I say see how he handles the rest of the season, especially with the challenges he's going to face with injuries, cards and call ups before we start the hand-wringing and wailing.

There's no point in canning Clarke at this point. Granted, he has shown nothing to indicate that he has any coaching ability, but there's always the chance he might get the hang of it before the end of the season. There's no reason not to let him try since firing him would essentially be writing off the season just the same.

Make no mistake though. We are at a massive coaching disadvantage versus all the other teams in the league right now. If you have any doubt about that, just look at the lineup that ran us off the field last night. Davy Arnaud, Diego Walsh, some nobody off the street in central defense, and a raw rookie named Taylor - not exactly allstars there. It wasn't a talent mismatch that resulted in our complete humiliation, it was a coaching mismatch. If you need another example, look at DC. The last 4 years they have been an embarassment, unbelievably missing the playoffs every season. This year, they get a new coach and are now in 1st place - all without adding a single new player of note.

The old saying goes, "The coach is half the team." Right now, we're playing with half a team. Give Clarke the rest of the season to see if he can figure it out. If the team is still a laughingstock at that point, bring in a real coach or don't be surprised at the empty seats in the new stadium next year. New stadium or not, people are not going to pay to watch the garbage that we continue to put on the field.

    NO!

CC is not the problem. Jeffries left the Burn in a huge hole, and it is going to take CC more than one year to get out of it. You could bring in Brian Clough, and it would take him more than a year. In getting rid of the dead weight Jeffries paraded on the plastic again and again, CC has forced himself to use a young team. CC often plays a team with five players with three years MLS expereince or less. Not every player can tear things up right away. They need time to mature and develop.

The team will find the "star" Latin striker. Then we will see how good a coach CC is.

    Cheers!

Sorry, you can't possibly pin our miserable play on Jeffries anymore. Or are you telling me that Dallas would be at the top of the table if only CC had Davy Arnaud?

The problem is not the lack of results or our position in the table. We all expected a long uphill climb in that department. The problem is that this team has looked like absolute sh!t in almost every game we've played this season - win, loss, or tie. Even as a die hard homer, I find this team almost completely unwatchable, and I'm obviously not alone judging by attendance.

Look at the DC example again. The system Nowak wants them to play is obvious to any observer, they attack down the flanks with speed and make aggressive runs to the posts looking for crosses. What system is Clarke training our players to play? I have no idea, and I've seen every game this season.

Secondly, CC has done nothing to develop young talent scouted from the draft. With the salary cap what it is in this league, no team is going anywhere without finding and developing the Ralphs, Noonans, Dempseys, Gros's, Grabavoys, etc. But Clarke can't even manage to develop young players enough to challenge scrubs like Quill for playing time. So we fall further behind.

Sure, give him the rest of the year. But he has a hell of a lot to prove as far as I'm concerned.

And those letters go into the filing cabinet labeled "Dallas Burn complaints," which is conspicuously cylindically shaped, has a plastic bag in it, and is sitting on the floor.

I'm not going to call for the firing of Colin Clarke, but in a league where worst-to-first is commonplace, I'm not terribly jazzed with worst-to-mediocre.

And by the way, I sure as hell miss the good old days when this team could actually score a few goals every now and again.

Why are we expecting CC to need more than one year?

Tomorrow never comes in this league. The teams that are great in this league are the ones that focus on winning today.

Might as well give the rest of the season to Clarke. Dallas is so cheap we probably wouldn't get much of a replacement anyway. Remember Dallas basically settled for Jeffries and Clarke when their first choices proved to be too expensive. I don't think the Burn is going to change their cheap a$$ policy. They certainly are not going to pay for someone like Bora or Hugo Sanchez when they can't even afford that SMU guy.

If Clarke would just wise up and bench Gbandi, Quill and Tally then that would go a long way to improve the team. Nothing is going to improve our goal scoring prowess, however. Clarke missed that opportunity during the off season when he opted for an expensive Defensive Midfielder rather than getting a badly needed forward or even an attacking mid playmaker to replace Pareja. I guess we will just have to wait for next season to fix this mistake.

I think all the talk of canning CC after half a season falls under
"Knee-Jerk" reactions. I was as pissed as anyone Saturday night, but CC didnt give up, most of his team did. I think that is what we should really be alarmed about. The fact the team just quit after KC's 2nd goal and the fell asleep after KC's 3rd (and offsides) goal is something to be worried about. I hope its not an indication of the mental make up of this team.
