Like I said in the pregame thread, I was pretty much through with Sigi when he missed the plane back to Columbus with the team. It showed such little commitment to the team and working to rebuild what was a winning/scoring side a few game ago. The problem with Sigi is he has no imagination. He dogedly goes in one direction and can't see any other path to doing things. People mention Moffat going out, but if our coach was Steve Nicol, he'd find a way to replace that player whether that was through another player or a different tact. Look at the turn over in NE the last few years and he's got them on top of the table again. We need someone that knows how to manage a club and who is flexible enough to change when it's needed. That's not Sigi.
If Moffatt is out, Evans sure as heck ain't the answer. If we're down two goals against SAN JOSE at HOME, bringing in Gaven for Ekpo is not the answer. Long balls to the corner for Moreno to chase is not the answer. Playing Ezra game in and game out is not the answer. The answer is Brian Bliss for coach.
This is a moot discussion. Unless there's some serious investment in talent it really doesn't matter who's coach.
Yeah, you can count as one of the people that are pretty much fed up with the fat man. He doesn't seem to care about the club (well, only as far as his reputation is concerned I guess). Of course neither does HSG. Until both things change we are as good as cursed.
Exhibit A: Warzycha after the Andrulis firing. same players, much better results. Tactics can have an impact on the game. Moreno needs to play with someone up there. It's usually Hejduk crossing to Moreno against three defenders with Rogers running far post. Moffatt was a welcome surprise because he was willing to get into the box forcing one extra defender to peel off and stay with him. Substitution pattern. A defender for an attacker late in the game with the lead or vice-versa instead of middie for middie. Love for certain players. Evans and Ezra should NOT be on the field. Ekpo has good potential. Zayner looked like he has promise although had a tough assignment tonight. Type of play. We are much more successful playing on the ground. Most of our solid attacks today were on the ground but we continue to pound the ball over the top. Do our defenders have confidence in their abilities? Do they have the ability to play out the back like Padula does? Tactics. An improvement today with a few variations on the corners which resulted in Evans doing his best GAM imitation (including the cuss word afterwards).
When will coaches know you can't win with one forward? I'm sure there's a flip side to this coin, but one forward reminds me of France 98, Germany 06, and, now, Columbus 08.
So quick we forget that he also tied the Franchise record for best start... We have plenty of games left. We're not even to the All-star break. Keep in mind this isn't the Premiership and you don't have to be the points leader at the end of the season to get the cup. Anyways, isn't his contract up at the end of the year? If he duffs up the rest of the season, then we can talk about this.
i don't agree with this!!! what has he done since he has been here?! i would rather see Robert out there because he knows this team and he has the capability to be the next coach.
What has Bliss done besides collect a paycheck? Ekpo. Bliss going to Africa to scout, that's rich!! Sigi actually isn't in my doghouse this season, yet. he even appears to have lost a bit of body fat too. That winter coat does wonders.
True. We need a general manager with the ability to hire a head coach with the ability to bring in players. What a concept.
I predict a super defensive lineup from Sigi at KC. He'll be without Ezra and Evans who are clearly favorites of his. That means he doesn't really trust their replacements, probably Zayner (at LB) and Oughton. If Hejduk is out for the Nats, we might get Iro in the middle and O'Rourke wide. Predicted lineup: Hesmer O'Rourke-Iro-Marshall-Zayner Carroll-Oughton Gaven Schelotto-Rogers Moreno Predicted result: we try to play for a tie on the road, give up a late goal and lose 1-0
I'm for the Polish Rifle. He played a more exciting game and more attacking style (and a winning record) with the reserve team (Cameron, Sutton, Vasquez, Glenn, Storey, etc). I'm sick of the defensive posture and one forward. I'm sick of not using a DP. I'm sick of retaining a defensive posture (1 forward, 4 backs) despite being two goals down at home. I'm sick of Sigi ball.
Actually Sigi is playing it like Portugal. He is giving his forward, GBS and the wings the freedowm to roam. Problem is lack on intensity on the defensive end (similar to last year) Giving up goals that should be prevented. I am not willing to throw Sigi under the bus. He sticks up for his players, he stuck up for Nordecke when they were getting attacked and now some fair weather fans want to fire him.
I'm not in favor of firing Sigi. We may be in a bad patch right now, but he's assembled a decent team for this year, and given where we are in the standings, I don't think it's fair to fire him at this point in the season. However, no matter what happens this year (even if we win MLS Cup), I am in favor of letting his contract expire, and letting Warzycha take over after this season. We can think Sigi for his service, and appreciate the talent he's brought here, but I have almost no doubt in my mind that Warzycha is ready for the job, and that he can do very well with whoever stays next year on the field (plus, as has been mentioned several times, his style is much more palatable than Sigi's).
If we allowed half as many goals in our last couple of matches, would we have won? Comparing the Crew to a team like Portugal is silly. CR terrorizes defenses and perhaps Rogers could be a lesser version but CR is protected and Robbie isn't. The rest of the Crew are slow, slow, slow.
Here's a quiz for Crew fans: 1) When, specifically, was the last time Columbus scored a gola? 2) Who scored it? May 11, 83rd minute, vs. Sad Jose; 2) Brad Evans Four freakin games. Best part of a month. 28 "professionals". A wage budget of $2.4 million. Not one goddam goal. This would seem to me to indicate that SOMEONE needs to change. And since we already tried replacing all the players and that clearly hasn't worked, then the only thing left is to fire the coach. Unless you think the rational thing to do is have the same coach rebuild the team again. Because this team is ************. And so what if we "make the playoffs"? Whoop-de-friggin-do. We make the playoffs, lose in two games and then what? We celebrate the wonderful season we've had? This is Sigi's third season. He's had complete and total control of the roster. And what has it gotten us? Dear Mark McCullers: the fat man's gotta go.
Crew hired someone do do scouting this year-where are the players? In the interim-bring Tim Ward back. He is sitting on a Colorado bench so he is no doubt available and Crew could probably get him cheap. At least he could play left back for a while and can overlap. Padula is going to be out for a while. I do not recall Ward making any terrible mistakes that costs goals last year.
