Is it possible?

Could it be that Aly made it known that she wanted to stay out West? Maybe the league thought it best for all involved that she stay in California.

I'm not so sure that the trades were bad.

The biggest problem with NY was the defense...just look at the goals scored against them. Also, how many times did we see the defense win the ball and then just turn it over to the other team or boot it out of bounds. NY needs defenders who can not only defend but also "play".

I don't know how we can say that their offense was "horrible", didn't they have something like 30 goals (not that far behind some and ahead of others)

Though I think Lalor is a good player, she was more of a possession player than a creative one. Baumgardt-Yamada came in very late in the season (correct me if I'm wrong)..she played 1/3 the amount of time Lalor did and she had 3 assists. I'd say that's no so bad considering she didn't have a season to mesh with the team and also that her game fitness could not have been at its best.
I did get to see a couple of NY'S games and the one that sticks in my mind the most is against Boston where she had the lone assist but easily could have had 3 as she put Millie 1 on 1 twice.

If NY takes Welsh, which I hope they do, I think she will be an asset. NY needs a big forward that can show for the ball and hold it. She has proven that she can score at the college level, I believe she also has scored for the NT. I think her and Millie could very well compliment one another.

Boxx is also a good choice, big, strong defensive center mid who can help the defense and also is not afraid to shoot from distance.

Kester would be a good outside middie, quick and good skill.

All in all, this might not be as bad as some think.

Maybe the new coach will instill confidence in these players and bring out the best in them. I for one would like to see all of the above given that chance.

Think of Kester on one outside mid, and Davey on the other??? We would kill the opposing teams with skill and speed.

    Don't forget Janss' goal scoring.

I know about Janss but I'm talking about outside mid. Janss would be up front.

I guess the SA quote nails it. Wagner wanted to go to SD, so the Power could get a lot for her 'pick', even though they may not even have used their first pick on her.

The deal is looking better and better all the time.

Keep Justi. If she is given a starting job, then she will be really good. Supersub is okay for now but keep her. Also get Aly. San Jose doesn't need her. You guys could use her. But I hope they concentrate on defense after Aly.

San Diego you mean. And we dont have that choice anymore. It's almost a big DUH that Aly will go to SD. Im over it and most of us are. A dissapointment but who would have though most of the players in the WUSA whos names were never mentioned before the league started, would be as good as they are now? Im sure Tom is looking for an international with Hege Riise-like skill.

Right. I know of a few good experienced international defenders who would be good for the Power defense. Elodie Woock for one. Great on defense. She currently plays on the best team in Europe, FFC Frankfurt, along with Birgit Prinz and Steffi Jones. Sonia Bampostor is an excellent midfielder at only 22. A great player who really has a lot of potential. Of course, if it's defense that you need then you go do no wrong in getting two of Norway's top defenders in Bente Kvitland and Anne Tønnessen, both of whom have been at the heart of that team's defense for a couple of years now.

Maybe somebody can satisfactorily explain it to me but...why would Sermanni trade away both his #1 pick AND his only playmaker if he was so sure SD takes Wagner? If NY takes Welsh they have 4 forwards and no playmaker. If SD takes Wagner they have 5 mids and no forward to effectively play with Mac. Is it possible a stipulation of the trade was that SD takes Welsh (who they need more)? That would ensure no one else gets her for a low price of 1 mid and a defender who seldom plays. In return NY gets Wagner with the #2 pick plus the middie and def. as compensation for the #1 pick. Nothing else makes sense unless NY uses Welsh for trade bait. Otherwise they squander their trump card (#1 pick) for a player they don't have a pressing need for. Both teams benefit, Lalor and Tietjen get to go home, and nobody has to pull off a big trade on draft day.

    Imagine it no more.

Power Trade Kester, Draft Pick For Keeper Carly Smolak

Imagine Aly and Jules in the same midfield. That will be a reality.
