Well reliable tweeters now confirming both deals are done. Tony Barrett tweeted an hour ago that LFC was done for the day. He's been on top of every thing for days now, so I'm not expecting anything else.
According to sky the Carroll deal is done. I'm gutted on losing Torres. I think he's a special player and would have had a great partnership with suarez. Just not sold on Carroll. Hope I'm wrong.
My two pennies on what happened the last few days... The negatives 1. Torres is one of the best strikers in the world when he's on form 2. Overpaid for Carroll 3. Might have been a much better situation had we kept Torres here until the summer (bidding wars, more options to purchase replacements etc) The positives 1. Both Suarez and Carroll will be coming here excited with a fire burning in their tummy to impress and win 2. Both youngsters (I prefer younger teams myself) with what appears to be a promising future (btw I still think suarez is a cnut for what he did to Ghana, but he's our cnut now... ) 3. 50 million is not a bad deal at all 4. New tactics / formation perhaps given the changes. We might be in for some more exciting football
I have to take my hat off to NESV/ FSG for taking an impossible situation and making it positive. Today's moves took massive cajones. I really like the idea of Carroll and think that he was great get, albeit about 10 mil. too high IMO. It was more of a statement buy, I think. Tom Werner and JH know the bottom line and would not have made moves that we could not afford. It proves what a cash positive situation Liverpool is as apposed to the posers in Blue. Now we just need a stadium and we'll be good to go. Really proud of our club today! PLUS - We cast off Konchesky!! YNWA
It would be the second window in a row that they'd be feasting on the wreckage of a fallen through deal.
Interesting piece here on ESPN. May not be the forefront of soccer intelligence, but it's a decent piece on our exploits today (focused on Torres) and shows that others share the optimism of many of us here.
When you say winning silverware did u mean 30 pieces???? Have fun winning the Carling cup and nothing else every year
David Hirshey is great even if he's a Gooner (you might remember him from the film Once in a Lifetime), and if you're in NYC on a weekend morning, he will drink with you over footy.
Andy Carroll says he didn't want to come. Got pushed out. Or maybe he's just blowing a kiss to the fans on his way out the door. He had a long-term contract there, and he signed a longer-term contract here. No one had a gun to his head.
I checked 4 or 5 sites and they all said midnight. Here's one: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transfer_window But only the Prem site said 11pm. I think the Championship is still midnight though. I should have checked the Prem first. Sorry.
Charlie Adam staying makes tremendous sense for all sides involved. Liverpool really doesn't need him with Lucas, Gerrard, and Meireles as options in the middle of the pitch. Additionally, Blackpool is very far from safe at this point but their staying up and with it the potential for another year of television revenue and infrastructure investment is more valuable then any transfer fee could ever be. Plus, the transfer fee is ridiculous for a player who can't really defend for the life of him, is relatively tactically inflexible (can't play out wide), and frankly flamed out of Rangers' squad. He clearly has grown leaps and bounds, but anything beyond 5M pounds was madness until he proves himself beyond half a season in the Premiership. Easy to forget its not as if Blackpool took the Championship by storm last year, they were 32 points behind Newcastle at the end of the season and squeaked into the Playoffs by one point over Swansea. Adam didn't come close to hitting the hights he's seen this season last season.
you know what? I'm glad Andy Carroll was honest and at least said something unlike that fake pos that went to chelski. Andy and Luis - make us forget the old #9 soon please.
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/873755/chelsea-sign-L50m-fernando-torres?cc=3888 At the tail end of the article . . .
supposedly a good little player. it will give us an opportunity to see him up close and decide whether he has a chance to make the grade for us two years down the line.
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap i've been away for a couple of days, but i just wanted to point out that VdV's fee was grossly under market. he was surely worth more than the 8m Spurs paid, maybe 12m. Oezil to Real was during the summer. today he'd be at least 20m Euros, unless his 5 goals in 21 matches is seen as underperforming. Khedira's fee was listed as undisclosed. do you know the figure?
Re: Is It Over Yet? January Wrap the thing that was weird about Ozil is that coming off a blockvuster WC - Werder still let him go cheap - why? b/c Real was calling and Ozil wanted to go. Very weird. VdV had a 20M deal fall apart so real just wanted him to go anywhere.
They already made a song: His armband said he was a Red, Torres, Torres But now he plays in Blue instead, Torres, Torres Just ask Wayne Bridge and you will see, that bad things happen at the bridge Fernando Torres, Terry will shag your wife LOL
