Before the big USA v Mexico game, is it okay to drink Mexican beer at the tailgate? Normally I like to drink at least a few beers from the country we are playing (you know, kind of like drinking the blood of your enemy in order to take their strength. Yeah its stupid - but that's me. I am a 35 year old moron). So, I am a Tecate fan, especially at tailgates. It doesn't fill me up, the cans make for easy clean up plus its darn good beer especially for the price. So, will I be considered a turncoat if I am seen drinking a Tecate in the Reliant parking lot. Keep in mind I will be wearing a red v-necked Nat jersey. Does Wales have a beer?
Is there such a thing? Tecate's pretty good, from what I recall being back home. But Corona, I can't believe it's being sold in this country. Rekindles my memories of beer that's even weaker than most American beers. I'm all for the spirit of the partaking of the opposition's beer... "like drinking the blood of the opponent, thereby zapping their strength". Sounds good in theory.
Not exactly my taste, either. If I had a choice, it would be Aussie beers (Carlton Draught, Victoria Bitter), followed by American beers (such as with Samuel Adams), then Mexican ones. But I might see if I can get some Tecáte at the local market at the mall here, in time for the game. Although the game takes place on Friday morning my time here-- 11 a.m. Friday kickoff Melbourne time-- I'll just enjoy the beer on Friday afternoon. Plus, I'll be on deadline for the local paper here, on my own beat, so that rules out drinking in the morning.
I prefer Tecate any more, but I've had more than my share of Dos Equis. I think Corona is worse than Coors.
Dos Equis is also good, from what I recall. My mom doesn't hardly ever drink beer, but when she could, that's what she'd prefer, in fact. Especially in Mexican restaurants. And when she had a stronger tummy, for spicy food and beverage, too. Maybe someone will be making margaritas at the tailgate? What the heck, after all, I am there in spirit.
Corona IS español for Coors. Just like the American-brewed and -distributed Fosters is "Australian for Coors". Beat me to the Dos Equis thing, Andy.
Our fridge already has Negra Modelo and Dox XX Amber ready to load into the cooler for the game Thursday. Indio?? I haven't had that since a trip to Merida a few years back. I'd love to get some of that stuff, but I haven't seen it here in Houston.
Ask y usted shall receive... ...inside at least. Dunno if everything will be open, but: Fare with flair (Houston Chronicle)
Take your pick. http://www.gwentcamra.org.uk/gwbcf/beerlist.htm Looks like Bryncelyn's Buddy Marvellous is the best of the bunch. Good luck finding some, though.
since i would be drinking crown royal were i tailgating before a canada friendly, i have no choice but to tell you that is it defintively okay - drink away
Re: Re: Is it okay to drink Mexican beer at the Tailgate? Couldn't help but notice at the bottom of that list, there's a Welsh brew called "Amnesia". Would anyone be caught in their right mind drinking that, bearing in mind the possible consequences? Great list, still... somone should forward that to Spartan1, the afficionado who is responsible for all the variety of beers at Spartan Stadium. He frequents the Quakes boards... As for finding any of the Welsh brews, I'm pretty sure Beverages & More might have a few that are on that list...
Finally, someone who sees the light on this crap. I can remember when this swill sold fewer cases than Blatz or Schmidt. Then by adding a lime, it took off. No matter how it's packaged, it still is worse than Oly or Hamms.
And it's still not too flash. Not to mention, if you misfire while adding the lime and turning the bottle upside-down in doing so, that could get quite embarrassing. Now those beers are only good on long fishing days when nothing's biting. Yes, crap beer, and lethargically crap beer, at that. Somewhat off-topic, but I'm enjoying a cold VB right now as we speak. No, not the best Australian beer to many here, but a Veeber sure is better than most American beers, and certainly better than Oly, Coors, or Hamms.
I do too...........well, I went to a Cinco de Mayo party and they had Corona and Coors Light, man I never had Coors Light before, but wow talk about drinking water.............. Thank goodness I had some of my trusted Asahi Super Dry (Japan's Number One Selling Beer!)
