I always wondered what would happen if somebody started a thread that was so outside the bounds of human comprehension . . . what would happen? Now I see.
There is no point whining about not getting coverage of the Blue Square Premier. Setanta was covering games last year and did a excellent job unfortunately the UK station went out of business and no one has picked up the rights to the league for this session
Terrible. It's definitely you. If ESPN2 didn't have EPL, guess what? The Manchester Derby would still have been on Setanta. ESPN has nothing do with that match not being available. So, your complaint sucks there. And second, FSC showed the Inter/Barca at 7:00ET on delay. You really couldn't avoid spoilers for 5 hours? Really? FSC now lets us see almost every CL match over the period of a couple days. Compared to before when you need Setanta. I think this summer has been great, and this post is foolish.
this is probably the right place for this thread. anyone heard anything about FSC trying to get the basic tier package for Cable/Satelite providers? Or did I just imagine hearing/reading that?
The memory of ordering Euro 2000 via pay per view is still too fresh in my mind for me to complain about viewing options in this country. (The semis between Portugal and France actually cut out as the game went into extra time due to cable co. screwup) I'm pleased with ESPN's Premiership matches as well as FSC's CL coverage. Many of the fears of poor announcers and tickers simply haven't been present.
It wasn't so much a cable company "screwup." iNDEMAND, the provider, had only allotted so much time for the games. Little did they know, that the games would run long. The games were 100% available on satellite, as DirecTV had given two seperate channels to nthing but UEFA coverage. It's a moot point now, as Euro 2008 was on the ESPN networks in HD. (And yes, people bitched up a storm about THAT.)
On this forum, I question whether people would not complain if every single european match was broadcast for free in HD.
Of course they'd complain. ABC is running a ticker. ABC is using Rob Stone in the studio. FOX is 1080i and that isn't ideal for sports PbP. ESPN spoils the scores. Take your pick.
For most of the country its gotten better, but for those of us in the Philadelphia area its gotten worse simply because we get the main Tuesday CL game at 7pm the next day.
Setanta had a free preview on Direct TV last weekend. I went over to a buddy's house who has Direct service and watched the Manchester derby for free. And it was awesome. The only thing I can see that is slightly worse than last year is that Setanta's online service has been flaky. But weekly HD games from the BPL and La Liga>>>>>>everything.
While the OP's argument might not have merit, the responses by Monster have been really out of bounds. I dont care what the position you argue, but to use personal insults and sadism to beat someone down is wrong. Ultimately its the mods who are at fault here. The mods who posted after him. I could be wrong, but did his posts really add anything to the debate? Is he this boards version of a Millwall fan?
If you live in the US, and LOVE futbol. All you need is directv and the sports package. If you need to watch EPL, then you need the aforementioned and setanta. I'm lucky because all I watch is La Liga and my CONCACAF with some occasional Serie A via FSC and FS espanol.
Yeah, the OP was definitely looking at the glass as if it were half-empty. But a lot of the people bashing him bring up what it was like 10 years ago or more for some reason. Clearly the OP was only comparing this season to last season. There are things that have gotten worse this season, but its still early so I expect these things to get ironed out. Right now its a bit of a mess which leads to games not DVR'ing because schedules get updated or changed only at the last second. Or big CL games being the least accessible (Inter-Barca). Satellite issues have ruined a couple matches too. So in summary, there are many more games available to the average Joe this season, but its also easier to miss that one match you really want to see.
Which is funny because the match in question which caused the OP to post in the first place would have most likely been aired on the exact same station as last season.
Along with his mistaken supposition that ESPN had more of a choice in what games to show or what time slots to buy.
Considering the general tone of your posting history is tossing insults at Liverpool fans, I'm not sure how credible your tag of "genius" is. Now excuse me while I go watch some of the orgy of soccer on my television.
