.....that there was no big name transfer to West Ham in the January window? What I mean is that we have money, even the sums that Curbs has spent have been largely recouped, I understand. So is it that we have a strong enough squad, as our injury crisis this season has demonstrated, that we don't see anyone good enough, who is available, that would bring anything to the party? Is it that the vision which Curbs has for the squad is starting to come together? There was none of the desperation of, say, Derby. No vital missing ingredient. No need for a knight in shining armour. Having said that I was saddened to see Christian Dailly go - although I understand why.
This was my reply regarding who Curbs might buy prior to Christmas, before the transfer window opened (on another site) in response as to who might be coming in, looks like AC is more than happy with the squad he already has. "Curbs stated a week or so ago that he's happy with the squad as it is skaff, and that he won't be tempted to do any business in January, but I'm sure he'll change his mind if the right players become available." __________________ THE ACADEMY OF FOOTBALL
I think the whole "we've spent money in the summer" thing is a smoke-screen. I think there are two factors. Firstly, it has been insisted for ages that we will hire a sporting director and, without one and seeing the disastrous transfer policy thus far, the chairman has put the kibosh on any transfer plans. Secondly, I think we've been lied to. The chairman has pulled the plug on a proposed move of training ground from Chadwell Heath to Rush Green, which to me looks pretty necessary to keep pace with the top clubs. Even Southampton have better training facilities than us. Where's the 40m warchest now when at the most generous estimates, we've spent about 10m net this season?
I'll wait until the season is over, before thinking about it. We are doing well and if we do get into Europe you will see a different attitude. The boss is also a banker and they only bet on certs. I think we will be fine. If we can beat Man Utd and Liverpool, with the Chadwell Heath facilities, then they can't be too bad. We also just spent several million doing it up: new pitches, new buildings etc.
