Can David Luiz become the new Lucio for Brazil National Team.
They are both strong and tall.

Lucio was very good. Probably one of the best for Brazil. I would say that David Luiz will not be the new Lucio but Thiago Silva prolly will.

David Luiz is better offensively but, he is a liability defensively. He has a lot of work to do on the defensive end before he can have as good a presence as Lucio did for Brazil. If he gets a lot better defensively, then he can even be better than Lucio. I think he needs to get a lot of playing time with the selecao and that is the reason I hope Mano takes him to the upcoming summer olympics as one of the senior players along with Thiago Silva so they can establish a chemistry together. For Brazil to have any success in 2014, the central defense has to be rock solid and David Luiz can play a crucial role there. Otherwise, I'd say, as someone suggested in another thread, make room for Dede, Rever or Miranda.

Well, Thiago was very good in defensive zone, but what made Lucio shining was that He is so comfortable with the ball in order maintain possession, and to surge up to opponent area and help attacking. The trade off was Lucio made some costly mistakes sometimes (thanks GOD not many but all happened in big games like WC02, and last Copa11)

up to now Thiago is very solid on the back: not so much resemble to Lucio game!

What is this stuff about player X being the new player Y?
I can't think about any two players in history where this actually came true.

Well they are both Brazilian and play same position, with similar style.
and Lucio is getting old and he wont be playing for Brazil for much longer. so Im saying is David Luiz the new replacement for Brazil.

Obviously every player is them self, and they cant exactly be someone else. but you know what I mean.

Agree with you. The post should say "will player X fill up well in the shoes of player Y ... " instead of being a "NEW player Y"

Not sure yet, for 2014 Thiago Silva for sure will be on Brasil first eleven, however both David Luiz or Dedé can be the other defender.

It's hard to say. Defensively, Dede is better but, offensively, David Luiz is better. David Luiz is playing in a tougher division in the EPL and also has been getting more opportunities with the selecao. Therefore, he will improve defensively in time. Dede needs to get a lot more time with the selecao to become comfortable as well. Not that the brazilian league is bad but, it would be a lot better if Dede could play in a more physical league like the EPL or the Serie A so he could continue to hone his defensive skills in time for the world cup. If that happens, then he may end up being the one to partner up with Thiago Silva in 2014.

Agree, but Dedé made a incredible season, for sure will be choose as the best defender of Brasileirão this year.

Brazil only have Thiago Silva who is Defensively, Because Lucio hasnt been called up because he is getting old. So Thiago is really the main one, thats why I think they need Dede because he is really strong, tall and probaly faster then David Luiz.
Brazil already have Marcelo and D.Alves who are offensively defenders, so they should maybe try Dede with Thiago Silva. David Luiz is really good too but Brazil need a defensive player so I think they should play Dede to try him out.

D.Alves vs Marcelo vs Macion - Who should be (Right Back) and (Left Back) out of those 3.
Alves and Marcelo are younger then Maicon so I think they will be there in 2014, But Maicon is really good so what do you think.
And would you say Maicon is a defensive or more offensive defender?
