What do Jeff Agoos, Mike Burns, Robbie Findley, and Jonathan Bornstein have in common that separates them from Chris Wondolowski? They've had a good game.
To think people were nutting over this guy cuz he scored a few goals against Cuba or something. I remember a "Wondolowski = McBride" post in the Wondo thread. Good stuff.
Blame Jurgen for playing him. How could he think Wondo could possibly be effective against Argentina? Unbelievable. Sub him at half - please.
Is there some Spanish or Italian word for a player who has a better touch with his head then his feet? If not, "The Wondo" is a leading contender
In terms of a player who has played in big tourneys, Wondo has been the worst. But why does JK insist on embarrassing the man? Wondo looked heartbroken out there. He had the face of a man who knew he didn't belong at this level.
JK is weird, and dumb. Wondo's minutes against Belgium were the first of the tournament for him. Wondo got some garbage time vs. Costa Rica but that wasnt really much of a game at that point. And so instead Klinsman dumps him into the biggest game of his life out of nowhere with the team getting its head kicked in around him. I mean, if you believe in the guy give him some minutes group play to get his feet under him, and if you dont why the ******** are you dropping him into a do or die game?
Wondolowski is the latest Jason Kreis/Taylor Twellman. Outstanding MLS goal scorer, completely unable to translate his game to the international level. I don't think he's any worse than those guys as an MLS player. By all accounts he's a great guy, and it's not his fault Arena and Bradley ultimately recognized Kreis' and Twellman's limitations and Klinsmann still does not recognize Wondo's. I don't expect him to turn down the callups. I expect Klinsmann to stop fxcking calling him in.
He came on as a sub against Portugal. I distinctly remember that because I watched the game at a bar in San Francisco that went nuts when he came on
He doesn't really bring anything to the table at international level. He has no aerial presence or hold up game. He has no speed to make dangerous runs in behind. He has no ability to create chances with his dribbling and touch. I guess his positioning and finishing are good most of the time , but it just seems to me that he offers no special qualities to threaten a good international defense. He can play against CONCACAF minnows, but really has no business being on the roster at a tournament like this. I have to believe that someone like Morris would offer more of a threat.
Forgot those minutes, probably because it was in the 87th minute when we were barely trying to hold on for dear life. Like, if you plan on playing Wondo in big minutes, why not sub him for Dempsey in the 60th vs Germany? Rest Dempsey, give him a chance to kick the ball around? And the Columbia game in this tournament, you are down 2-0, why not put a poacher in and let him see if he get one?
The sole mention of Jay Heaps for the NT put me in a state similar to Dowser when he hears about 27b/6: Jay Heaps... *shaking* Jay Heaps Jeay Heaps.... *wailing* Jay Heaps...
Look, he has been great against CONCACAF weaklings, but that is it. The bigger issue is why our program does not have better to displace him... Even with Wood out and Altidore hurt.
