Here's a player who I suspected was a dual US citizen for quite a while, but a search today found a quote from his old coach in USL who confirmed this status.

Name in home country: Irvin Enrique Herrera Baires
    Date of birth:
    Aug 30, 1991
Place of birth: San Julián, Sonsonate [IMG]
    Age: 29
    Citizenship: [IMG] El Salvador
    Position: attack - Centre-Forward
    Player agent: Pro24sportsmanagement
Current club: [IMG] Santa Tecla FC

“Believe me, we went through a lot of guys before we landed on him,” STLFC coach Dale Schilly said. “We looked at tons of video, sent a bunch of emails to scouts and coaches, trying to find somebody who could fill that spot. I found an old email from a guy who recommended a Central American player who ended up doing pretty well in the NASL last year and he mentioned Irvin. Then, when he told me that he had dual citizenship — U.S. and El Salvador — it definitely got my attention.”

Born in El Salvador, where he played in 42 games and scored 23 goals over the past two seasons with first-division Santa Tecla, Herrera first came to the United States as an 11-year-old.

“I basically grew up here,” he said. “Elementary school in California, middle school in Houston, high school in Virginia and college in South Carolina. When I heard from the coaches here, I talked it over with my brother — he’s been my coach for as long as I can remember — and we decided it was an opportunity for a better life, not only for me but for my mom, my daughters and my entire family.”

He has been bouncing around a bit in the last few years between El Salvador, USL, Guatemala & even Thailand. Currently he's on the books with Santa Tecla in El Salvador.

He has 15 caps & 2 goals with El Salvador.

    Started today for Santa Tecla:
