Why is it that the higher-seeded teams in the MLS playoffs play their home games on Wednesdays, while the lower-seeded teams play their home games on the weekends?       Shouldn't the higher-seeded teams be assured of the bigger crowds?       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
The second round of the playoffs should have the first and third games on weekends. So the top two seeds should get weekend home games then. Being the third or fourth seed sucks though -- weekday home games in the first round, weekday home game in the second round (assuming all the top seeds win).
higher-seeded teams be assured of the bigger crowds? [/B][/QUOTE] For the Quakes, it doesn't matter. We'll get 10k either way Sean
Goodsie, that's the way it was last year, right? (C-Bus was the higher seed in the quarters and got the weekend game - SJ got the Wednesday night game. I don't remember how the Miami-SJ series was played). It is actually more convenient to see a game on a Wednesday night than a Saturday night so I'm not complaining.
Re: Re: Irony of the playoff home-field advantage... We had our home game against Miami on a weekend. Remember, last year's playoff schedule was compressed due to September 11. Game 3s of both semifinal series were on the Wednesday before MLS Cup the following Sunday. This year, the schedule will not be compressed. The schedule should look something like this: Round 1 Game 1 - Wed/Thu Sep 25/26 Game 2 - Sat/Sun Sep 28/29 Game 3 - Wed/Thu Oct 2/3 Round 2 Game 1 - Sat/Sun Oct 5/6 Game 2 - Wed/Thu Oct 9/10 Game 3 - Sat/Sun Oct 12/13 MLS Cup - Sun Oct 20 So there will be a week off for the finalists -- maybe more if they sweep their first two games, but that didn't happen much last year, the only sweep was us over Columbus. For you, maybe. Some of us have to fight traffic all the way there on weeknights.
Re: Re: Irony of the playoff home-field advantage...       Exactly.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
I thought MLS's questions was "What's offsides?" or perhaps, "why is it SO important for the linesman to be in position anyway?"
Re: Re: Irony of the playoff home-field advantage... Wednesday's are match days for the high school team I coach so this will really suck. I will be tied up until at least 5:30 and then fight traffic from the central valley to San Jose. I'll really need a beer by the time I get there.
