Scalia must furious. Now it looks like we do have a right to have our votes counted. Anyway, sure it's ironic that Bush signs this, but give him credit for hampering his own chances in 2004 by having all votes count. Now if they'd also fix all the OTHER problems with our political system like polls getting closed illegally, people getting put on felon lists when they're not felons, legalized bribery via "campaign contributions", etc.
I'm not saying it's a bad thing, and while this legislation, had it been in place during the last election, would certainly have changed the result, Bush really isn't damaging his chances...he has gained some support for those who may have voted the other way. That being said, the man should still have a Secret Service agent with him all the times to provide Play-Doh to keep him entertained while Cheney is speaking. And all the other issues are less likely to be resolved because it puts money into the campaigners pockets. Nonetheless, something more needs to be done.
Unless you're advocating using the RICO law as a means to disband the Democratic Party, I don't think this can be accomplished.
Speaking of election reform...look at the joke in Detroit: http://www.detnews.com/2002/politics/0210/29/a01-625516.htm I wonder how many dead people are going to vote again for the democrats.
Detroit elections are a joke. They had 95% turnout in the last presidential election, if you believe their tallies. Bush carried the rest of the state by FAR but the Democrats stole the election in Detroit for Gore, who received Saddam Hussein type percentages in the city. The vote counts were staggering in their absurdity. I guess they're getting set to steal the gubernatorial election now for Jennifer Granholm. What a farce.
http://www.detnews.com/2000/politics/0011/09/a12-146391.htm This article from the same paper says that there was a 47.7% turnout in Detroit in the last presidential election. I know everything El Rushbo tells you is gold, Ian, but this one is so ridiculous I thought even you would look it up first.
Actually Ian, I think that she is going to win outright. I hate to say it, but Postumous (sp?) is a bumbling idiot. Republican or not, I just can't bring myself to vote for the guy. I don't agree with everything Granholm stands for, but when's the last time that you agreed 100% with any politician? But if she is willing to bust her ass to help Detroit continue to grow, than I am all for that. I drive past the burned out neighborhoods everyday on my way into work, and I can understand why no one would want to live there. A strong, thriving Detroit is good for the entire state. Besides, she's got a hot ass.
Ian's on my ignore list, so all I know of his post is what was quoted. I'm pretty sure he meant to say that 95% of the votes went Democratic. (Now that I've defended Ian, I'm going to have to take a long, long shower.) Anyway, that's a pretty typical percentage for Gore last election, among inner city blacks. (I'm making the crazy assumption that Ian's figure is correct. YMMV.) It's good when people vote for the party that doesn't work to deny them the right to vote.
A not-so-subtle reference to the humongo asses that are displayed all over Ohio, no doubt. But you forget, I am from Michigan. Only the 2nd fatest state in the union. We have no choice but to recognize fine asses when we see them.
Well, unlike the Detroit News, I actually used correct logic. Their 47% turnout figure takes 600,000+ as the base figure...which their OWN article and the mayor's office acknowledge is severely bloated. Obviously there are no rocket scientists writing for the Detroit News but I am saddened that you took their feces as fact.
