Iraqi 'terror ships' at sea By Patrick McGowan, Evening Standard 19 February 2003 Three huge cargo ships feared to be carrying Iraqi weapons of mass destruction are being tracked around the world by British and American intelligence. The vessels, which have been at sea for three months, are believed to be carrying weapons smuggled out through Syria or Jordan. They are all refusing frequent requests to provide details of their cargo or destination and officials are worried that the vessels are maintaining radio silence in clear contravention of maritime law, which states all ships should be in constant communication. Despite grave suspicions of what is on board, Britain and the US are afraid to order interception by naval ships because of fears the crews would scuttle the vessels, each between 35,000 and 40,000 tonnes. If they are carrying chemical, biological or nuclear weapons this could cause catastrophic environmental damage.
I heard about this story on CNBC Europe this morning, who picked it up from the Independent newspaper. Apparently they rang the MoD in London, who said: "We don't comment on specifics." They then rang the Pentagon, who said: "It's 4am. Call us back later." **this really did happen**
Re: Re: Iraqi "terror ships" at sea I notice Charlie Sheen hasn't been seen in the media lately. Coincidence? I don't think so.
the real question is where is chuck norris in all of this. if you want to put an end to any threat of middle eastern or south-east asian decent. you call chuck norris.
What happened to that truck being driven by those Middle Eastern guys? Oh, that's right - it was full of nukes and killed us all, I forgot. Wait a minute - Patrick McGowan? Oh, my God! He escaped from The Village! He knows who Number One is! He - oh, that was Patrick McGoohan, sorry.
Has any other news agency got independent verification of this? Or is it just The Independent's source?
I don't know a lot about Patrick McGowan's writing (seems to be a bit of sensationalist hack, judging from the link posted) but he was good as Secret Agent Man and even better as The Prisoner. "Who's number one?" "That would be telling."
Among your various ill-concevied and ludicrous diatribes about Communism, Buddhism, or what have you, I believe this is the most useful thing you've ever posted in the Politics forum...A very salient question that demands an answer.
They were in New Mexico. meaning (i believe) that there's a sixty percent chance they were casino developers. meaning, of course, this is a segroves thread.
Wait, you mean we can't depend on the word of redneck gas station attendants to fight the war on terror? I hardly know what to believe anymore.
If this really is chemical weapons stored on ship to avoid UN detection, then it is a gigantic mistake by Iraq. Of all the places in the world to hide things, the worst is the open ocean. The US simply owns them. If I were president, I would certainly reward this behavior with a few days of bombing at least. So far, no governmt has admited to the even the existence of the ships. We still have to wait to see how it plays out.
Maybe these terror ships are going to rendezvous with that Arab-driven semi full of nukes that is presumably still driving around the U.S.
Yeah, I guess we should just forget about these two stories since there's no way in Hell they could ever be true. It's like those stories of 5 planes being hijacked simultaneously. Yeah, right, like that could ever happen. Your Truly, Mohammed Atta
ian, seriously. if you think that is true then i have some beautiful sea-side real estate here in central ohio that i am selling for a great price! if it were true i think that there would be a little more coverage of these 'mysterious' ships and trucks traveling the seas and roads of our country. and our homeland security office certainly would be keeping our all important 'lets panic' threat level at orange instead of talking of lowering the level....
Last I heard, last week they stopped at a gas station in Byers, CO to buy gas. Haven't heard anything about them being found.
The terror ships story was reported on ABC, CNN, FOX, and MSNBC tonight. It still hasn't been verified, as far as I can tell, but I don't think you're going to find too many people in the intelligence community commenting on the record.
What's the deal with this truck full of terrorists supposedly driving arond the country?? I haven't heard anything about this. Are you guys talking about the 5 guys the Feds were looking for right before New Year's who supposedly came in from Canada, and one of them turned out to be a shop owner in Pakistan or something like that? Alex
I couldn't agree more........The five planes that were hijacked weren't really hijacked until one of them hit one of the towers. It has to be confirmed through the MEDIA in order to be true. I'm sick and tired of hearing the "it can't be true and let's give them more time" arguments from the left.
Re: Re: Iraqi "terror ships" at sea If that white ball, "Rover" gets a hold of one of these ships, they'll be brought back to the village for a meeting with number #2. I suppose Blair is number 2 in our case ... number 1 is in a bunker at an undisclosed location ... probably 20,000 leagues under the sea.
