Note: There were many confusing reports and rumors before the start of this season. All disussions prior than the final decision were moved into the pre season thread. ============================================= 1- League will have 36 teams, three groups (North, Central and South) with 12 teams 2- Bottom six teams from each group will drop to the 1st division, the remaining teams (18) will form the new league of 20 teams (2010-11) 3- Promotion round will be played with 6 teams, 2 teams will join premier league this season 4- Iraqi cup competion is scheduled to be back in 2010-11 season Qualification round teams (December 7-15 in Baghdad): Karkh, Siyaha, Masafi, Zakho, Hindiya and Shabab Fallujah
Now that's starting to sound like a good plan for 2010-11 season, but bloody hell, half the clubs get relegated from each league. And when is it going to start? We have nearly entered 2010 now, goodbye to 2009-10 season and welcome the 2010 Iraqi Premier League
They want to start on December 30 and finish on May 28. Would be still 09-10, and if not, I can still change the thread title. About time, this will be the major clean up we have been calling for.
One simple improvement i'd like to see in the future is an Iraqi football calender. I'd like to see the league start at the same time every year. This season will start nearly two months later than the previous season. Although this isn't a major problem, i think it's just a basic organisational skill. I just sometimes think, why are they trying to get back in the ACL when there is so much basic stuff to do back home. Even my very basic local league has a season start date and end date which everyone knows years after year, it's generally drilled in to us and comes part fo life and routine, i couldn't imagine what i'd do if i didn't know the start date for months on end! Slow improvements, but welcome indeed. The league structure should work very well within a few seasons.

Five teams from each group will advance to the second round, where they'll be split into two groups with five teams. Final round will be played in Home and away games, not sure about the first one but I guess it will be only round-robin because the tight schedule (they want to finish until May 28). The winners and runner-ups advance to the "Golden Stage", with Semi Finals and a final. Unfortunately, the creation of a 20 team league has been delayed until the 2011-12 season.
what a joke, i think i have to tell my kids later that once they have promised this, but unfortunedly we still play with 80 teams in league
Season starts tomorrow. Match of the round will be between Al Quwa Al Jawiya and Al Zawraa (aka THE Derby in Iraq). Game starts at 14:30 Baghdad Time, 11:30 GMT.
