Iraqi civilians feed hungry US marines

CENTRAL IRAQ (AFP) - Iraqi civilians fleeing heavy fighting have stunned and delighted hungry US marines in central Iraq by giving them food, as guerrilla attacks continue to disrupt coalition supply lines to the rear.

Sergeant Kenneth Wilson said Arabic-speaking US troops made contact with two busloads of Iraqis fleeing south along Route Seven towards Rafit, one of the first friendly meetings with local people for the marines around here.

"They had slaughtered lambs and chickens and boiled eggs and potatoes for their journey out of the frontlines," Wilson said.

At one camp, the buses stopped and women passed out food to the troops, who have had to ration their army-issue packets of ready-to-eat meals due to disruptions to supply lines by fierce fighting further south.

Civilians have remained largely out of sight since the invasion began 10 days ago. Towns and villages are virtually deserted, prompting speculation that most had shifted to safer ground before the fighting began.

Corpsman Tony Garcia said the food donation was an act of appreciation for the American effort to topple the brutal regime of Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein.

"They gave us eggs and potatoes to feed our marines and corpsmen. I feel the local population are grateful and they want to see an end to Saddam Hussein," he said.

If you weren't too busy surrendering to Germans and eating Freedom Fries while jerking off to pictures of Jerry Lewis, maybe you would have time for personal hygeine and your hairy armpits wouldn't smell so much like monkeys'.

"They told me they wanted to go to America after the war. I said where. They said California. I said why? They said the song Hotel California and they left singing Hotel California."

Not only do they have a terrible fashion sense, but also crappy musical taste.

You can't knock the Eagles; when they're together they've done some great stuff, but with the exception of some Joe Walsh songs they suck by themselves.

It could be easily all true, of course, also what the us soldier feels (and medias don't forget to underline) but who would be rude and unkind to these boys?

Generosity is automatic when they ask for something, especially if they're very hungry.

That's not the point and you know it.This was unecessary if the planning for this hadn't been a disaster. We should be giving them food.
Agreed- I hope the refugees find a safe place and don't pay with their lives for this generosity which should not have had to occur.

Sorry, but I didn't realize we sent the Salvation Army to Iraq by mistake.

I appreciate the donations made by kind Iraqis.

True, but the impression I got from the article was that the Iraqis offered the food to the Marines, rather than the Marines asking for it.

As always, missing the point. The Marines have food to eat...military food. The Iraqis were offering them food as a sign of gratefulness. Unless your point is that the Iraqi people love Saddam and hate the Americans your attempts to divert the main thrust of the article makes no logical sense, as usual.

Anyone really thinks that iraqis are either black or white? Is bushism a contagious disease?

There are iraqis who love saddam hussein and hate americans.
There are iraqis who love americans and hate saddam hussein.
There are iraqis who now love americans and hate saddam hussein, tomorrow they will hate americans.
A lot of iraqis hate saddam but don't trust americans (timeo americanos et dona ferentes)
    A good number hates both.

A huge number of arabs/muslims hate USA (many more than before).

    Good occupation.

Yeah, of course. These are the ones shooting the Iraqis in the back as they attempt to surrender and the ones who toss innocent civilians into human shredders.

These are the ones being shot in the back and tossed into human shredders.

These are the opportunists who would've aligned with Saddam had he promised them a cushy position of power. They would willingly brutalize other Iraqis for personal benefit. They will align with Americans until it suits them otherwise. I think we realize that and will plan accordingly.

Now, tell me why you support the first group of oppressors?

Is Iraq a democracy yet? If not, what the hell is taking so long?

I'm sick of this war pre-empting my regular tv shows.

It's a contagious disease. it spreads from TVs.

    Where, when?

Anyway I wouldn't be surprised if some of such incidents do happen. (few not many)

You, american patriot, what would you do to americans collaborating and welcoming a foreign invader?

So I can easily imagine some iraqi patriots waving their flag and shooting at who they think they are traitors.

    No you misunderstood the point.
They will hate you when they will discover YOU are trying to use them.
i.e. When your vicerois will start to rule.

    Wrong.

I support stopping this war now.

Have you ever been in the military? Sometimes you could use a little salvation, from anybody.
